Greeny, Geoff, Luka and Paul braved the squalls today and were rewarded with downpours and shifty gusty conditions. 30kt afternoon with gusts nearer 40 (50kts through just now).
Not an easy day - A mid-sail squall put proceedings on HOLD for a few minutes, but it came back in after the cloud had passed, and felt 10 degrees colder too.
Paul B got 'best and fairest' I reckon, taking on the 'challenging' conditions with grace and aplomb.
Luka definitely got 'longest swim' - the whitewash just grabbed your gear if you lost it, and the break was quite a way out.
Goon Dog explained the wind dynamics early in the day, suggesting that 'if the tumbleweed is blowing ALONG the beach, it will be gusty, but if it is blowing up on to the dunes, it will be steady' - SPOT ON. It started fine with a slightly on shore wind and then went to the west, the tumbleweed started moving along the beach and that was it. I think I changed board / rig about 7 times through the day.
For those who enjoy an easterly, Thursday is looking like it is going to be an absolute ripper - 26 knots, constant all day. For mine, this is THE direction for Bellbuoy, generating amazing right hand DTL riding as long as there are some bumps.
