Dear windsurfers of Adelaide,
I am Italian, and I recently moved to Adelaide and every time I watch your beautiful sea, I miss windsurfing like crazy.
The situation is even worst when I fell the breeze that every day blows here in Adelaide.

I am trying to cure this addiction with some sailing, (I heartfelt thanks, Adelaide's sailing clubs for their fantastic hospitality) but you know.... windsurfing is magic....

In short:
- here in Adelaide, it seems impossible to find a kiosk on the beach from which to hire the windsurf gear
- I will stay here in Adelaide only for a while (till July), and my only mean of transportation is a 50cc scooter (no, it's not an Italian Vespa) and this excludes to solve the situation buying some used gear

Would anyone of you be so kind, once in a while, to lend me some old gears for going together for some windsurfing?

Some info about me:
182 cm
90 kg

I am used to flat water (I have no experience in wave condition)

My boards (in Italy):
- Starboard Phantom 320
- Starboard Ultrasonic 147
- Tabou Rocket 125

My favourite sail: Neil Pryde V8 10.6

I am looking forward to hearing from you
Thanks
mike

I have a JP 85 liter FSW board you can borrow. Not sure how you will go transporting it on the Vespa?

You might need to buddy up with some of the boggy lake crew. It's flat water and pretty popular with a fair few sailors. I am not sure what standard gear rental rates are? A cartoon (not of VB) per day?

Hi Mike,

My big gear is probably too small for you (110 Slalom board and either a 7m or 5.5 sail), but you're welcome to give it a go. I sail Semaphore. Come down when it's 15 knots and introduce yourself anyway. I'll look out for you.

Hi Darvio,
Hi JN1,

First of all, heartfelt thanks for your generosity

Yes JN1,
you are right:
the Tabou Rocket 125 is my smallest board, and I am afraid that your 110L board and especially Darvio's 85L could be too difficult for me.
It's not only a matter of weight (I'm 90kg dry on the scale) but it's also a matter of experience with small gears

I have been twice in Semaphore beach, and it's a very nice place.
In which point exactly are you used to meet with each other? Just close to the jetty that is in front of the carousel?
Do go there only on the w.e. or also during the week?
Morning? Afternoon? How to "understand" when there are 15kn in Semaphore? Do you check any particular website? (In EU I use WindFinder.com, some other friends refer to WindGuru)
What about if I give you my mobile number, and you drop me an SMS when you go there?

Thank you very much for your kind help
mike

No worries. PM me your mobile and Ill text you when I think it will be a big gear session.

If you're in town and can get to Semaphore relatively quickly (20 min), then use this site's wind readings:

www.seabreeze.com.au/weather/sa/adelaide

Take Outer Harbor reading, take about 3 knots off it to correct for wind gradient, then average it with the Adelaide airport reading. Semaphore is 6km north and south of these two stations, and gives a good approximation.

If you live a fair distance away like me, then you have to rely on forecasts (and hope for the best).

J
