Hey guys,

I'm looking to get more involved with windsurfing after having a blast with my mates who have a few boards. I want to get a full package (ready to sail) suitable for a beginner. Something with a retractable centreboard would be good. But I don't just want a big floater, I want something that will get up and go as well as be stable.

My mate said she didn't get any of her windsurfers for over 50 bucks (she said she got them from garage sales). I am willing to spend up to $200 if the price is right though.

So if anyone has their first windsurfer that is now collecting dust (be that because of children, upgraded gear, whatever), I would love to hear from you via pm or t03y@teamskandia.com

Cheers! Michael

hi micheal,

good to hear you want to get into windsurfing. youll find it not much different to sailing.

unfortunately i doubt very much that your gonna get anything decent for learning for $200.

$1000 bucks is more like it but if you want gear that is gonna last your better off paying to start, rather then buying cheap stuff.

come into onboard at the bay. Im sure they'll have something for you.

good luck

That is a pretty good setup for $1000

If you can afford it that is.....

no way am I going to spend 1 grand. I am 17, only work part time and have a million other sailing fees to pay for (the joy of sailing....)

I just want something cheap but reasonable to learn the basics and then move into something like a $1000 set-up. Of course, the last thing I want to do is blow 1 grand to realise I am totally hopeless at it

Hi Michael,
I feel your pain, at your age i was exactly the same. I loved windsurfing but was too commited financially and time wise to sailing. If I had my time again I would wipe sailing and stick to windsurfing but each to thier own. IMO the best thing you could do right now is get a few lessons. Gives you the chance to find out if you like it, speeds up the learning heaps and will prob get you past needing a beginer board with a centreboard in no time. I think in the long run this will save heaps of dollars and if you do give it a crack and like it theres heaps of guys (and Gals) that will help you out. Theres a guy called Matt just started up a school, seems like a good guy. PM me if you want his number.

I Sailed for 20 years. Then I realised that sailing is just too expensive and went Kiting and Windsurfing.

Sailing is fun don't get me wrong. There are way more cost effective ways to have the same fun with out the huge expensive of sailing.

I have barely a third of the cost of my 18ft sailing boat invested in other gear and can use it 5 - 10 times more a week.

Just worth thinking about.

I think I could help you if you would spend 500 bucks.

320 board with centre board, mast foot, extension, fin, a carbon mast, decent boom with harness lines, and a couple of sails, race or wave.

You HAVE to have a safety vest, later on you might want a harness.

I have 7 boards from 360 down to 270, bases, extensions, several masts, booms, wetties and safety vests in several sizes etc.,helmets, fins and want to just keep a couple for myself. I'm sure we find something for you.

I would probably kit you out for 300.- (epoxy mast, a battered boom without harness lines, cheap fin) but it is is easier to learn with gear of better quality.
