Hi All
Doing a Yorkes trip this weekend. Staying at Marion Bay. Are there any good flat water spots on the North coast of the boot? My buddy isn't quite up to an off shore breeze on the south coast.
I am thinking corny point, Hardwicke bay, Point Turton.
cheers
darvio.
Hi Darvio, I was at Pt Turton a few weeks ago (didn't sail) but two kiters had the beach all to themselves in 15-20knt N/NW - it was low tide in the morning and stayed quite flat. Flaherty Beach (turn off between Pt Turton and Hardwicke), if you have 4WD - drive right onto the beach itself from the carpark or from either of the two towns' beach tracks.
Corny, Pine Point (Couch Beach), Leven Beach all ok BUT could get very sloppy with a strong N/NW, and weedy.
Stansbury might be a better option for flatter water.
Let us know how go.
Yeah, will be interesting to see what you make of the weekend and where you end up. Post pics if it's any good ![]()
We tried a few spots over the weekend.
Point Turton on Friday in the NW was ok. We sailed from the western end of the beach that runs between Point Turton and Hardwicke Bay. It's easily accessed from the esplanade at Point Turton by a good dirt track. There's a fine rigging spot and enough space for a few cars. The sailing there was reasonable. It was nice and windy, with lots of wind chop. Lots of ramps for the bump and jumpers, and pretty smooth on the inside for Gybing. My mate whos still sorting his gybes was happy he could still stand in chest deep water about 1km out.
Pondie Bay was pretty blown out for surfing on Saturday so I gave it a crack on the windsurfer. Rigged up at the fishing village and sailed over towards surfers. Fun easy blasting, lots of swells, lots of weed in a few spots, and a bit dark and scary at times. It was WNW about 20kts.
Have some pics on the camera, will see if there is anything good.
