I was in Adelaide from last Thursday through Monday for a mates wedding. First time in Adelaide. A really nice city and place. Very cultured.
I was having lunch in Glenelg on Thursday and couldn't help notice that there was an onshore breeze blowing most of the day (at least 15 knots) but I couldn't see one single windsurfer or kiter. Are wind sports banned from this area or what is the story?

yeh unfortunately due bad history with local councils both kiting and windsurfing have become, non-existent in the glenelg area.
Both seacliff to the south and henley to the north are popular places for both kting and windsurfing.
Glenelg beach also has a high public usage and has plenty of water traffic when its sunny.

after midnight,my memory says glenelg is not very cultured "gws"..
north glenelg used to be sh.. hot,really did love sailing here,but they made the wall higher and no wind inside,,,used to see 30 sails out on a good sea breeze.
people were either south or north of your luncheon position "gws",,glenelg is not a go to spot anymore,,although kites could be banned?
yeh north glenelg used to pump.
i wouldnt try it these days. besides the weird ocean markers and out of control tourist boats, the unpredictable out flow of adelaides sewage into the gulf is a sure sign that its not ment to be sailed at.
i once saw a human poop getting barrelled on the beach at north glenelg. "NO ****"
glenelg still cranks
the dredge outflow creates a bar in the middle of the bay with good ramps mid tide. it is the best spot on the Adelaide coast to sail in a 25kt + seabreeze
last summer seabreezes were often windier than semaphore- peak c breeze about 3-5 then goes SE
They are meant to be installing one of those sausage wave breaks adjacent the channel which will be sick
i usually sail it by myself - everyone thinks apartments have stuffed it - this is wrong
i will post headcam footage to prove it.
Awesome topic! I saw a nice (for onshore) wave breaking in the middle there at N Glenelg in one of the SW'ly gales and thought it would be a good spot. Must be the wave you're talking about Maris! Looks like a bit of reef from the aeroplane.
