Just a reminder that the next series of racing and GPS speed events is getting closer. This series involves three races over three months, with GPS Speed, Slalom and Marathon being the three disciplines that will be contested.

With the Goolwa channel being sooo good, then I think there's no doubt that it will be the location for the GPS Speed event. I'd like some suggstions from others (that will be competing) as to where they'd like the slalom and marathon events. Please keep in mind that we need there to be a boat ramp for the boat, and safe water-state for the boat even in big winds to assist with the course setting and rescues where required. Please let me know your throughts.

I'm also keen to get an idea of likely competitor numbers to assits with the competitor packs etc. This will also help me to determine the classes for trophies etc.

Also, is there any merit to announcing the events at short notice (maybe 3-5 days ahead) to try and catch better conditions? This makes it hard for people to lock it in around other commitments, but would enable better conditions for racing. Perhaps we do this with just the GPS speed day?

Please let me know your thoughts on this next event series. All ideas are welcome.

Cheers.

Short notice is really all that it can be with the types of venues we have now ,as the lack of fresh water tends to limit certain places as to the direction that can be sailed ,the wind now has to be in certain directions to be sailable.

But.........what about trying different places like Snapper point at Aldinga on a westerly just for fun to upset the wave sailors ,it is reasonably flat over the reef but must be sailed at high tide? (On second thought though it's a bit rough to launch a boat when it's blowing)

Or what about a trip to Barmera ,Lake Bonney and support the guys up there ?

Or Northhaven on a NW next to the breakwater ,but I don't know if a public boat ramp is close.

Sultana Point on Yorke Peninsula? after all they do have a forest of Wind turbines there.

Im in anyway to represent the geriatric commmunity

There is a number of public ramps around North haven and are probably less than 1km from north haven beach

Hello Chris,

Sounds great - I'll have a go. A flexible date to catch the best wind is OK for me, barring family commitments.

This new channel at Goolwa sounds interesting.

Richard Upton

Sultana Point is a no go. Only works on S/SE .Went there in Jan. Sand bar that protected the point has moved and to much weed to be sailable.Kiter Heaven now.

Sailed the spit at High tide at Pt Vincent. Very nice flat and fast but still needs S/SE.

Sailed Stansbury as well .Nice flat and fast.Again works on S/SE. Both spots require weed Fins and Booties a must due to Razor Fish.

Great summer spots only.

Yeah sounds great im up for anything as per usual. Still relient of dad driving me around though so TRY keep it within an hour, hour and a half of here would be good lol .

Anyway as much as i would like to sail right now, i obviousily cant which is a bit of downer. Not exactly sure how much longer it will be until i can get back on the water and it will probably be a very light sail. Doc said no sport for 6 weeks at least but from what i feel now its going to take all that and maybe a bit more. Hopefully not though, we'll see what happens over the next few weeks. Don't want to rush it and get into trouble though, thats the last thing i need.

Anyway chris put my name down and i will let you know how im going at the time. Would love to compete even if i miss the first one or something. Might even try getting there even if i cant sail.

Cheers

Shame about Sultana but yes Port Vincent is a lovely spot if it's in the right direction ,the bar is not far from the water if it's not.

But at the moment Goolwa is hard to beat for flat water on a SW ,so you Victorians can just keep pilfering our water at the present

So what second hand gear would be a good starter for this if you wanted to cross over and have a go at the speed side - a starboard sonic or I sonic /F2 SX and a 6.5m race/speed sail (KA or stealth or similar) -

Had fun at Milang at the speed day this year - but sure wouldn't be competitive on my Evo and Gaastra wave sails!

We to are looking for a quicker board, Isonic sounds like a good option

im in chris.

short notice sounds like a better way to predict conditions, which is really what its about i would have thought. no point having 30 people turn up for no wind... it's got my vote.

Hi Russ,
I've got a few older style slalom/freeride boards which i reckon would go pretty quick in a straight line. Their going for around $400. I've also got some Pryde V8 sails at about the some price. Not the flashest stuff on the water but it'll go ok if you just want to have a hack.
Otherwise I'm going to try and make it to the events, so you can use some of our demo gear (Starboard iSonic and Maui TR 4 sails).
Might see you there... I'll be the one floundering on my wave gear!

Thats not a bad idea with the older gear, might just update a fin on the old Bic Vivace, get it cranking! Just dont want to turn it!
