We are going to hold this at the Murray Mouth (Sugars Ave., Hindmarsh Island).
Looks like moderate 15 k winds from the SW at this stage - perfect for slalom with bigger sails and boards. We will set a figure 8 course for a few casual races. Bring your GPS too - fastest speed of the day gets a beer and total respect from your peers.
Also bring your backup plan for lighter winds - it's a good venue for practising sail tricks and freestyle, or a cruise to the barrage. SUP would be flat water fun - stroke over to the Murray Mouth.
12 pm start. All welcome. PM Dr Duck for more info.
Sunday morning - not a lot of wind out there and it's raining in town. Looks like the front will come through mid-morning. Most chance of wind about mid-day I think.
Chris D. and and Richard U. have some new gear to play with, so they are going to give it a go hoping for 12-15 k.
Bring on summer ![]()
We had a small but dedicated group
Weather not so bad - no rain and the occasional burst of sunshine. Wind was 10 to 15 knots, but more 10 than 15. A good opportunity to test the lower wind limit of some new gear. Slalom racing I think has a 12 k minimum (like at the Nationals etc.), so ideally you need gear that can get you planing in the 11-12 k range. Turns out I don't own any of that
.
Not enough wind for a slalom comp, but Chris D won the max speed division with 44 km/h. Impressive speed given the conditions. Yours truly won the freestyle division by switching to the ever reliable Kona - I'm claiming a back-winded back to sail, and a "coffin", both without getting wet. Some other tricks were less successful - water was bloody cold
. May have caught Chris D. looking with envy at the Kona when the wind was light (for a second or two!)
The Murray Mouth is a great venue for slalom and freestyle. Plenty of seals there yesterday.
Indeed I do have Kona envy ... or at least long board envy.
Dr Duck is quite the freestyle master these days - he was pulling all sorts of tricks and moves. It was great to see.
Very light wind yesterday, but a nice little squirt of 14-15 knots late in the arvo combined with a wind change that gave us (me) some planing runs.
Always good to get wet.
