There's the possibility of a job at Uni of Adelaide in my future which would mean relocationf fro Brisbane.

How's the windsurfing down there? Do you get regular winds and a good sailing season, or is it a bit patchy like it is here in southeast Queensland?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

I should add that I'm into open water blasting, mainly, but could be tempted back to slalom. Does Semaphore go off regularly in summer? Do you have daylight saving? Can you sail in the afternoons after work, or is there a regular land breeze that kills things?

Howdy ikw777.

We get pretty reasonable sailing - worst times are april and sometimes around october.

The rest of the year is pretty good.

Semaphore gets great seabreezes during summer and the regular crowd up there are carving it up every arvo that the winds in. we have daylight saving and I regularly sail after work (sellicks usually fills in after 5pm) sunset mid summer is after 830pm

I live south of the city - summer seabreezes a little more fickle down our way but the gully winds at sellicks can be light and fluffy to nuclear - and add some waves and its good winter rocks, nthlies, waves and cold water (12-13 degrees) and some big sw fronts at Seacliff, snapper and northern beaches

as far as windsurfing goes its pretty reasonable

4.2-6.4 100l free wave and smallish wave board will cover 99% of your sailing

There is a pretty active windsurfing community as well and we try and organise a few events throughout the year.

The onboard site has a breakdown of locations and also on Windsurfing SA web page

Cheers

Sounds good. I've been looking around the SA forum now and it seems like you have it pretty good down there.

I'm 75kg and have boards from 85 - 115 litres and sails from 4.5-7.5 so i think i'll have it covered.

One thing we don't have here is daylight saving which pretty much shuts down the possibility of sailing after work if you work in the city (like I do).

Expect it can get a bit cold though? (I'd need to buy a wetsuit)

Ian, you'll be impressed with our traffic. You'll get used to the cold water. You warm up pretty quickly when you rig up anyway. Just get a suitably rated wet suit for winter. Catch you on the water :)

PS/ Russell. you didn't slag Semaphore. What's going on ?

I don't want to be impressed by it! I'm hoping it half what we have here 'cos at the moment I can't sail after work because of it!

traffic here is nothing compared to brissy, you would be pleasantly surprised,--
you would travel 25ks in 45mins in any direction peak hour normally, less out of peak hour,we dont have gridlock often, unlike brissybane.
We do however have the worst drivers in the country, most neanderthalls who made it through the ice age(men and women) drive in adelaide
Adelaide has a great climate and is a top spot to live!

I don't slag semaphore and am happy to have an annual sail down there - it gets the best wind during summer and there are some of the best silors going around sailing there - just a tent and water bag for some of us to get there and I find it one of the most knee testing choppy spots around. I would prefer to sail where I can get some waves -even if its a gusty 15 knts and knee high - than drive an hour and sail flat water.

Show me where I've slagged it sharkey - i have only ever stated my sailing prference - and believe me if I lived up there I would sail it every day i could!
