Just got home from a week out west following on from the West Coast Wave classic.

This was my first West Coast wave classic and i can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about going next year.

Unfortunately missed the best wind on the friday due to other commitments but was awesome to arrive Sat morning to Zac's excellent hospitality with a hot coffee and bacon and egg sandwich.

Great fun out at the Walkers Bombie on Sat arvo, little bit light but still some fun waves and great to sail with Ben Severne and James from Esperance. They really know how to share the stoke. Thanks to Stan for getting me and my gear down the beach.

Thanks to Maxa for the Sat and Sunday night bbbqs and the sat night especially was an excellent night with everyone coming back from the beach for the bbq, some drinks and a yarn.

Sun morning a fun little sup at the bombie with Richard and Rylie and even Lano paddled out once he overcame his fear of the deep channel.

Mon started with Rain, and with little swell at Walkers, made the drive up to cactus. Ben and James were on the water when i got there and taking off on some solid ones. Wind was a bit light but headed out for about an hour or so when we all came in for a break. After 5pm we all went back out and the wind picked up and allowed us to plane out the back and a few jumps were had and some big set waves coming through. The day ended with a dash to the penong pub for a counter meal and a few beers then back to camp to light the fire to get warm.
I had to laugh at the pub when Ben was on the phone to Scotty Mac and told him there were a few head high ones. If head high equals mast high, i hate to see what Ben calls mast high!

Tuesday Ben and i had a Sup in some solid glassy waves and we were both left with big smiles. Ben and James headed off for the long haul back to perth in the arvo after waiting sufficient time to see if the seebreeze was going to kick in, which it didnt.

The rest of the week was filled with some Suping, surfing, drinking, eating and guitar playing.

Capped off the week with an hour and a half session yesterday in half to 3/4 mast waves, wind was a bit light but just enough to glug out and pick them up. Shared the session with one kiter from Margaret River and capped it off with a beer together after.

Id like to thank my sponsors, Nelson County Bourbon and Toyota who made this all possible. The 86 Corolla has now survived 3 Cactus trips.

Thanks again to Zac, Maxa, and Ben and to everyone who was involved with or participated in the West Coast Wave classic.

Cant wait for next year.

Great report Bondy!

Not sure if anyone got a photo but the 86 Corolla stacked with three boards, three sails, two masts and booms, a swag and a mean old fridge was quite a site!

Cheers

Nice work Bondy glad it went off at Cactus for you after missing out on Friday[}:)].
You have done your sponos proud.
And I do agree may have too look at a bit more flexibility in my plan next year.
Also hope my rotator cuff has healed enough for me to screw it all up again on the pole next classic.
See ya there.

Yeah, you better watch out when i see you down the beach Ty. Big muscly hunk and all you are.

Actually, given the way i couldn't keep my eyes off the two young hot girlfriends of a couple of travelling surfers at Cactus i dont think you have a problem.
