Just starting a thread for tomorrows race Saturday 12/01/13. As Gareth said in the other thread:
Briefing is at 2 pm, Race at 3 pm.
WSA membership is available on the day (for those who aren't already members) but please get their early to sign up to give the organisers plenty of time to set courses etc.
See you there!
Regards, Richard
Here are the results from today's race the wind came in to give us a good start to the race but then dropped off leaving the fit ones who had the energy to pump onto the plane to get the laps. Sam hit a Carp and the resulting catapult at the outer buoy which broke his universal he managed to use a bit of rope to tie it together to get back and then change to a new mast base and keep racing a good come back considering it cost him at least 3 laps.

Well, I enjoyed the race but got to say that was hard work. Come briefing time the wind was light - say 8 k and more south than usual. The start was delayed by 1/2 an hour and a buoy was set for a figure 8. By some miracle, come the start the wind was somewhere over 15 knots and the race was on in earnest, with everyone planing at good speed.
Then there was a light patch. Then another. Time and again. I had dusted off an old slalom board and 7.5 Koncept (might lose my "Mr Longboard title" if not careful) which was holding my own in 15 k but when the wind dropped trying to pump on to the plane time every time a gust came through was exhausting me - bloody glad when the hooter went to mark the 1 hour.
Equipment choice proved interesting - the key at the end of 1 hour was to spend as much of the hour planing as possible. Hayden M did this well and took line honours on equipment that can only be described as antique. Peter C I think chose pretty big gear and must have been toughing it out for the first 3 laps, but was cruising nice and consistently in the last 45 min. David M seemed to be planing in nothing and was giving Hayden a run for his money but alas will now be the subject of his own thread in this forum :-). Good to see Tricky making the haul over from YP for the race. Sam hit a carp and speed and broke his UJ - good effort to repair and replace and still get 8 laps in!
My own equipment choice seems to be getting a bit more refined - maybe next time I will use the same gear but I could spend a bit more time tuning. Should be able to cruise at 26 k rather than 24 k on that board, and maybe an adjustable outhaul is a good idea just to lower the planing threshold by a knot.
Thanks to Michele for the record keeping and Garth for the apres beer.
Could the organizers please paint the white buoy so that it can be distinguished from pelicans and white caps!! :-)
lol. thanks Koshi...that was clocked on the first race day a few months ago, and was a shock to all concerned, especially me! i think we're due a ripping race day, so i don't think it'll last for long.
so people, why the change in dates? unfortunately now you've moved it, on the last race day i'll be on the other side of the equator! i bet that will turn out to be the big wind day!
After reviewing the results it has been decided that 1 lap was not counted for David M the results have been amended to reflect this missed lap.
