Talking to various people over the last year or so here on seabreeze, in the shop, via email... etc, etc there seems to be quite a bit of interest and a few different ideas on the best format (individual comps or a series).
Me and Pete were discussing organizing more events a while back and I put together some ideas to put forward when we got everyone together. We didn't get as far as organizing a meeting, so its great to see that it's happened anyway. Obviously in the mean time Pete has done an awesome job of organizing the Beachport event (which I couldn't make).
Anyway, here is some food for thought. A bit of a combination of the different suggestions from various locals -
Winter Series & Summer Series
3 events in each - June/July/Aug & Dec/Jan/Feb respectively in a Nomadic style format ie The dates and locations are flexible. We just set the dates and location a few days prior when we know the forecast.
Possibly beers/bbq and presentation/video night following each series.
Beachport event in October.
Robe Classic event at Easter.
Each event run as an individual comp, but the results of each one gets tallied up to form an overall series... if that makes sense.
If you used Robe (for example) as the final event on the calendar, then a state champion could be crowned in various divisions (male, female, junior etc) at the Robe Easter 'Windsurfing' Classic, with a kick-arse end of season piss-up/presentation night at the Caledonian.
A points system could be created to make it very fair for everyone, even if you can't make it to every event.
Sounds complicated, but could be run as simply and casually as the recent Beachport event ... but with wind!
Cheers,
Tony
I have been informed that a group of wavesailors met in a secret location under the cover of darkness fueled by pale ale and chips and came up with a concept for some wavesailing social BBQ events over the next twelve months to test the waters and response form the local wave sailors.
Local retailers were represented and discussions of costs, format, BBQ's, club hoodies, country events, sponsors, locations and a range of other issues took place.
More will be posted in the coming days from the group including an up to a 6 event calander including already happening events, contacts etc.
So watch this space - and keep an eye on the SA events over the coming weeks.
Sorry I didn't make it Russh, I ended up having a good sail last night on a 6·5m and a 107 Thommen. I was working on heli tacks all night, nearly got them nailed.
It is on again tonight!!!!! I love summer.
There's a 'few' people who seem to be prepared to back up their talk with action.
It's a pity there's so many people who are all talk and will sit back and reap the benefits of other peoples effort!

its like that with everything!!! just have to get used to it. we will be reaking benifits aswell!!!! ![]()
Just to clarify my earlier post -
My comments weren't aimed at anyone in particular. Anyone who I have spoken to over the last 6, 12, 18 months could have thought it was aimed at them I guess. If I've ruffled any feathers, good... turn up next time!
I've got some suggestions for the 'undercover 8' which may make it more appealing for more people to attend. Keep following the SSAWS08 posts!
Straight out windsurfing comps are awesome. If you can imagine the Robe Easter Wave Classic with just the windsurfing crew, no us and them mentality and no over-crowded breaks, then your 'close' to what the comps used to be like and what they will be like with your support.

Muzza
