Can it be true - some seabreezes on the local beaches
Fingers crossed for a long summer of seabreezes to back up the better than average winter sailing!!!

Wind: S/SE 13/18 knots, reaching 18/23 knots south of Brighton in the morning. Afternoon S/SW sea breezes 15/20 knots.
Sea: around 1 m.
Swell south of Marino Rocks: W/SW around 0.5 m.

The seabreezes have been great at Semaphore ...
Friday 2 Oct ... 6.2m and Freewave 95 - 4pm to 6pm
Monday 5 Oct ... 6.2m and FW95 - 4.30pm to 7pm
Tuesday 6 Oct .. wind great but passed.
Wednesday 7 Oct ... 6.2m and FW95 - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
I hav rang Pt Adelaide council,They reckon you will get fined for windsurfing(84056818) Ring ya self an find out.........
Fear, uncertainty, death. Convoluted rules that manage this is one thing, Trying to police them is another.
Have a look at the council by-laws - there is nothing to stop you from windsurfing at Bower road unless they change the by-laws.

Look on their website - ask them when you ring what by law they are interpreting this from - no by law - no enforcement - maybe if members of windsurfing SA that were concerned got together they could approach the council from that perspective and discuss it legitimately - maybe being a member of Windsurfing SA with insurance may help the cause.
We looked at the by laws them recently (two weeks ago) and it there was information about restricted use of inland waters but nothing preventing windsurfing in open ocean or rigging on council beach side land.
Unless they have a by-law to support them (which may have been introduced) and have this posted publicly there is absolutely nothing they can do and they cannot penalise you for something that has no fine in their regulations etc.
Look at the web page and see if you can find anything that's been updated - I must say ringing some council buffoon and talking windsurfing - it may be related to the kite bans - most of them wouldn't know the difference.
More council scare tactics if you ask me - stand your ground and until they change the laws challenge them to provide evidence of the bans

Not sure about approaching the council, it may spur some action against windsurfing. If there is no legislation against it maybe let sleeping dogs lie. Might be worth attending the occasional council meeting. I just read the minutes of the previous few meetings and there seems to be nothing in them regarding windsurfing. Assuming i read the minutes for the correct meetings.
I may go to the next meeting (next tues 7pm, Council Chamber, 62 Commercial Road, Port Adelaide). The last thing we need is something like this to slip through un noticed. Probably nothing to worry about though.
but some of the nicest cleanest wind around in a seabreeze without doubt - if they start trying to fine people then representation may be worth it.

I spent the good part of my smoko and lunch break to today looking through the Enfield/Port Adelaide Council web site. The closest thing I could find was your quoted paragraphs. If I ever get a fine, then I'll worry about it I think. If things change over the years, I would be happy to pay the council a permit or join WindsurfingSA to use this coastline. I can't see this happening, since these beaches in so under populated. The car parks are always empty when it's blowing. I agree with Grandfromage about not being noticed.
Yeah, the northern beaches are crap for chop... but I live where the work is, and it's not possible for the next few years to move in the city. So, the northern beaches is my closest water. If I ever loss them, then I'll probably pick another hobby.
I remember the City of Holdfast Bay cracking down on us windsurfers two seasons ago, they got us confused with kitesurfers. Peter Cieser ended up having a meeting with the council and got us windsurfers off the hook (still have the e-mail from the council, I think), as there where no reports from the public regarding windsurfers, only kitesurfers. The dog inspectors where trying to police it. This crap seems to happen every summer!

Thank you for your enquiry. Windsurfing is allowed on any Council beaches. Only Kite Surfing and Kite Buggies have any restrictions.
