Yea - I have used it a few days in a row now. Have learned quite a bit about the setup and quality is gradually improving.

1) At North Haven on shores in 25+ knots it shakes at full zoom a bit too much. I am weighing it down with lead but there is a bit of free movement in the mechanism that is required. Works ok when pointing direct into wind but not so well when I am out the back. I need to set it up further down wind. I am also opening up the auto zoom a bit next time.

2) Specs say calibrate at 50 steps from the base. I have learned to do this at 150 steps (max) as we are so far away from the camera.

3) Must calibrate with the target at ground level or it shoots 5 feet too high for the whole time. 1 day of bugger all.

4) One of the two methods for changing which sailor is being recorded does not seem to work (tap tag three times), so I have a whole day of Steve. Another day of...

5) Must charge the tags the night before use. They are flat when charged two days before. Another day of...

When all falls in to line though, footage is awsome. Very close even when right out back, and smooth. Tracks even right out at the pole thingo.

The tags are light and you don't even know you have it on. It has a light to confirm you are recording that is easy to see.

An unexpected advantage - the unit has a big battery and can keep the camera charged whilst in use. Should get about 4 hours out of the system (I think) which should be plenty for you marathon sailors.

It has a light you can see to confirm it is tracking you but this can't be seen when sailing.

You also need a solid tripod and some lead to hold it down in the wind.

It would help if it had a majic sand padlock so no one can steal it. I must admit I keep a nervous eye out for it each time I gybe out the back.

They are $400 without the zoom control and the camera is only $300 and has 27* optical full HD and is 'weatherproof'. The controller is also weatherproof. Cost adds up with extra tags ($200 each) and the zoom controller (this also alows remote on/off of the camera) - also about $200. You could probably live without the zoom controller in most of our spots if you are prepared to miss out on the close stuff.

I expect to have some footage online in the next few weeks.

If windy today I hope to use two tags again today and swap recording between the two using the other method (button control). The other method is easy but you would need to stop for a quick or beach start to do it. Takes about a second but it needs your attention.

Could try launching in sth carpark and placing in lee of the rockwall if the zoom is good? Might get some protection?

Got multi sailor working now consistently. Works quite well. Can switch between sailors whilst sailing it is just that you don't actually know you are being filmed. You can signal not to be filmed but not the other way. Lens needs cleaning every hour at north Haven or the salt spray kills it.

Also calibration needs to be very accurate. I calibrated on a clump of weed at 50 metres last night and it was crap. Need to calibrate on a ezyrig from 150 metres for it to work. This takes about 5 - 10 minutes on the beach and has to be done when it is windy as the camera changes calibration when the wind changes significantly.

Also I have to put the camera below the high tide line or the sand kills it, which is a challenge when the tide comes in! Having said all of that the film I got whe it was working is BETTER than a human doing it...
