Hi everyone, this event is coming up fast. We have gone for a less ambitious target this year, and the 3rd is the date with no carry-over - lets' hope for a good forecast :-)

It will be a group coast run rather than a race. We will need down-wind conditions, and enough juice to get people planing. We will meet on Seacliff Beach (time will depend on forecast closer to the event). We will have a number of designated stopping points along the way, where we will wait and regroup, with land based-support for those who have had enough. They can un-rig and put their gear in the trailer. No rescue boat, but we will have the Surf Lifesavers on notice that we will be coming past.

A great chance to blast off the wind without a care in the world about how you are going to get upwind again! Any board that can get planing on the day will do, but you will need to be at the level where you can complete most of your gybes in the conditions on the day.

We will fire up the BBQ and Esky at Semaphore if we can find a patch of grass. The coastal strip is busy this time of the year, but that makes it more fun :-)

It's best to team with a buddy to arrange transport - we will have space for 5 sailors and rigs in the support car to get from Semaphore back to Seacliff, but please arrange this before hand. Otherwise, you will need to do a car drop-off at one endwith your buddy.

If the wind is light, we will go for SUP and light wind antics at Seacliff. And the BBQ
and Esky.

To keep the lawyers happy, you will need to be a member of Windsurfing SA, wear a buoyancy vest and carry a mobile phone (use a water-proof container!)
$10 entry just to boost the Windsurfing SA kitty.

Anyone interested?

Cheers, Windsurfing SA

Monday's forecast is a tricky one. SE gradient wind could mean anything from 20 K SW, 20 K SE or glassy calm at Seacliff. We might need to be flexible about our launch site. Just keep watching the forecast at this stage.

Here's the plan - for those interested in a coast run meet at Dr Duck's house in Marino (38 Forrest Ave.) at 11.30 am tomorrow (3rd Jan). We can watch the wind over a cup of tea and a biscuit - should be clear by then what the wind will do for us. We have at our disposal a 6 seater car, trailer and dedicated driver. We can load up there and all head down to our chosen launch site, hit the water, and get the car to pick us up when our arms are ready to drop off :-)

Cheers, Richard

Looks like strong SE most of the day - rules out a Seacliff to Semaphore I think. We are just formulating plans for a run today starting around Sellicks way - will post here shortly after 10 am with an update.

PM Dr Duck with your mobile number to stay in the loop.

Ah, the wind is a fickle mistress :-) Today's strong SE rules out a lot of options on the metro coast. The best we can come up with is gathering at Button Rd, Sellicks beach at 2 pm today.

I'm sure many of the locals will be sailing there anyway. If the conditions are just right we could potentially get a tinnie in the water and do a run from Sellicks to Myponga - but not if it is crazy windy. Let's not be silly now :-)

Otherwise, just go blasting and make the most of it.

Cheers, Richard

So hows ya back Richard - saw you pull up but you'd left before I could catch up and someone said you tweaked the back and couldn't sail.

sellicks was less than ideal for a Myponga crossing - 0-22 knt gusts (maybe) with a couple of ankle slapper waves - good fun hanging out with all the crew for a cool drink and a chat though.

Thanks for the ongoing efforts of trying to get some windsurfing events happening in SA - certainly is a tough gig when you relying on fickle adelaide wind and everyones various commitments.

hope your back in the water soon

Cheers Russell,

I've been hobbling around on a walking stick the last 2 days - extreme sport this windsurfing. Even the rigging is dangerous.

Yeah, not a good day for a coast run. We have had 2 misses with this event now. Thanks to everyone for their various offers of help get this off the ground, both this year and last year. Frustrating when it doesn't happen.

I've done plenty of coast runs myself in the last couple of years (shortboards and longboards), but on reflection they are all spontaneous and rarely planned ahead. Makes it hard to plan an event, and the weather seems particularly fickle the last few years.

On the other hand, both Seacliff to Semaphore events could have gone ahead as planned if longboards were still in fashion:

Any shortboard - 10 knot wind range, onshore winds needed
Kona One or similar - 30 knot wind range, any direction

I'm a convert - can I convince anyone else :-) (actually I never stopped sailing longboards, but modern longboards like the Kona are amazing). There is a lot fun to be had navigating along a long section of coast.

Anyone else seen the expedition windsurfer?

That's my type of crazy :-)

hey Richard, rigging can be a bitch when your back is a bit dodgy.. hope the recovery goes along smoothly.
the board in "Expedition Windsurfer" looks a lot like the Dart that Ken Knight used to bring along to the "Frostbite Regatta's" at Meningie, without the retractable fin !
be a lot of fun if that's your thing.
hope the coast cruise goes off one day, I've also had a lot of fun cruising the coast and other areas...

will have more free time now and hope to join you and others in a few "SA Events"
David
