We've called it - 9am saturday - we are running out of weekends and finally we have a decent wind forecast - the swell may be a bit on the small size but we are going to sail any way.

Low tide is around 09:15 at Pt Noarlunga - you can sail south of U turns and there is a little Right that breaks there - may just be a little shallow in close - or for the more advanced Triggs (100m North) may have a few low tide chest high sets.

The plan is to get as many people on the water as possible and have some fun.

Sausage sizzle later in the day - there has even been a few trophies donated for outstanding performers on the day.

As this is a social event that relies on windsurfers just getting together without a club or association a donation for the BBQ would be appreciated and jot your name down on the white board for a chance at the social wave sailing trophies.

Its been a tough decision to call it with such a small swell predicted - but as long as it's windy I am sure we'll have a good time - be aware that the Nthlies can turn off pretty quick around midday so get on it by 10 if its windy

We are going to meet at U Turns pergola 100m South of the corner of the Esplanade & Cliff Ave, Port Noarlunga South SA 5167 (hope the link below works

Ps Parking is limited to about 15 spaces but there is parking across on the road

Cheers - the wave sailing crew

Cheers To Hail, Mc Flying and Divaldo for organising the "infrastructure" for the day and other offers of assistance - looking forward to some fun - and maybe some forwards!!!!

Update re Saturday

A couple of details - with low tide you can head out through the channel between U's and Triggs - go up or down wind from there (some of the crew sail back around to Southport for the beach breaks)

Fin rock is straight out from the Pergola and is not visible until you find it when tide is around 1m and to about 1.4m - we will point it out on Saturday.

This is about fun but Wave rules apply - no dropping in (taking of just down the line of someone on the wave), snaking (gybing inside someone who has been on the wave from out the back and calling them out) and sailor heading out through the surf has right of way.

Large amounts of encouragement, whooping, laughing, jumping, cut backs flying spray, looping (full and attempts) stacking and having fun are mandatory!!!!

Anyone found not to be having fun will be disqualified!!(Joking)

If you've got some second hand gear to sell bring it along and put a sign on your car - your trash may be someone's treasure

See ya there

> may just be a little shallow in close

I'll be using my 36cm fin (or 40cm if the wind is low). Will these bottom out ?

Ja

By the look of the forecast a 25cm fin may be about right.

You'll only bottom out if you sail to close in the shallows - the channel to the north is OK - you can usually see the bottom very clearly if its sunny- gives you a good guide as when to gybe - the smaller the wave the less water it will break in (not always true) but a rough guide - if its 1/2 a foot and you got a 46cm fin you gonna risk hitting it

We'll point out the safe spots in the morning at about 915 (but being an adult it is up to you to assess safety your ability and the gear your sailing to make the decision if its within your capabilities) and the reef is pretty obvious - E.g. brown and pointy!!

Check out Sundays Forecast - it may be even better swell wise!!!!

Tomorrow morning is looking windy - I would get on it ASAP - the BOM are calling a fade out after lunch - fingers crossed that the WA system has pushed a bit of extra westerly swell our way. Will update the Swell net forecast later today.

Got the feeling Sunday is going to surprise us with some good conditions as well.

See you there!!

The swell forecast remains a little disappointing but the BOM are calling 25 knts at 0900 - hope to see you there - at least we'll get a good blast even if the waves are only tiny and there should be some decent lumps to jump coming through buy lunch time.

A quick note re yesterdays event:
After a few runs up and down the U's ramp with all the gear we got underway around 0915

With some music blasting from the PA the "fkleet" of around 20 who signed up hit the water.

Wind was pretty nice 20-25 knts with the odd light patch - the swell certainly bypassed the event but that didn't stop anyone from catching the waves that were coming through and milking them.

Some big loop attempts (and bounces) off the bottom from Gareth, a few nice forwards from Scotty Mac followed up with some nice re entry air and jumps Darren zub carving it up and Hail, Mcflying, Spearsey, Divaldo, Dr Duck, Egbert, Kym, susie the two simons, all getting there fair share of waves and sailing.
Special mention to Bubs who got out amongst the waves -good effort - just work on those gybes and water starts and youll be pushing us all next time around.

BBQ was great -chers Chris for the snags and bread.

Overall Scotty Mac won the Wave of the day Trophy in tough wave conditions.

I won the most trashed fin award (self awarded) Gareth the loop attempt king

Cheers to everyone that turned up they all seemed to have a good time.

We are planning another one but only if the swell and wind gods collide - and it will be a late call.

Thanks to all the sponsors that helped out and the crew that organised things and Johnnies call of events live at the waters edge - job well done.

Thanks to Susie and dean for the post comp debriefing (and fin repair workshop) over beer, pizza and wine.

Had a great time saturday and got the blisters and smashed fin to prove it.

Nice piccies Babydoll and Dave and cert of apprciation Mc Flying was very professional

The swell missed us by one day - yesterday was 2-3 ft - slim Jim and Hail got a few nice ones and the surfing and SUP crew getting some sweet waves all down the coast - was painful looking at on the way to footy with the little bloke and knowing ya couldn't get a sail and it would be all over by the time ya get back - the brownie points were well used up saturday.

The fin has had major surgery and will survive to play another day - even if is now a 27cm reewave fin not a 29

Well done everyone for coming down and having a blast

Yeah, thanks to the SASWS for a great day out. Good to see everyone on the water, and picked up a few ideas to work on. Like learning to jump on starboard tack!
