a low developing south of Kangaroo Island.
tomorrow should be one of the best windsurfing days this year. everything is set to go all we need is for the weather god to turn it on! bring your best tricks, style and go your hardest! let as many people as you know about it and will catch everyone tomorrow!
Hi all - we are on for Middleton (Day Street) sign up from 10 am.
There are reportedly 1-2 foot waves Middleton through to Goolwa with the odd bigger sets (surfsouthoz) so there should be some wave action an Day street with an increasing swell this afternoon.
First expression session planned for 11
Open Expression session around 12
Open finals around 1245.
wrap upby 1330 - free sailing till you drop
See you all there
Looks like shifting about 11:30am to NW and then W by 1pm - so this timing is almost right. It is going to blow hard looking at the readings!
Fingers Crossed and good luck guys. Sorry, cant be there
, gotta go to Wallaroo for a gig with my band ![]()
Hope the comp went well. It was blowin' at Mt Compass, not sure if it was the right direction though.
If I was home for a bit longer I would have dusted off the gear and come down.
Maybe next time!
Hi folks - good turn out - great wind - swell was a little small and set waves were hard to come by but some great sailing was going down.
wind kicked in right on cue at 1130 and 5.0m sails and smaller were the weapons of choice.
The first round expression session was great with 10 social sailors and 7 from the open group hitting the water.
The social sessions that got the vote for the day:
1st Place Darren Zub gauging some big top turns and throwing buckets on the RRD twinnie
2nd Place Richard Upton - got some great waves and some laying some nice top and bottom turns
3rd Place Russell Hunt with a couple of nice waves
Womens division went to Kim Symonds with a strong performance in difficult conditions with a couple of great waves
The open Mens expression session was called as the final with all 6 entrants and there was some big air moves, buckets of spray and great wave riding. The guys had difficult conditions as the wind kicked to 25-30 knts and most were well and truely powered up.
The judges scoring
1st Place Scott McKluskey with a wave and jump total of 83 - landed and sailed away from some nice forwards and managed to get some nice down the line waves in the western end of the contest zone.
2nd place - Mark Smith - 74 points - some great jumps, and waves in his usual smooth style
3rd place Chris Hail 64 points - with some sweet table tops and some well time wave guages.
4th Cain Jeffries 50 points with some nice cheese rolls and some great of the to turns
5th Ty Roberts again with some nice waves and a few big air moves
6th James Thomson - with a few nice waves iat the far eastern end of the comp zone.
(i hope I spelt everyones names right as I don't have the official list with me - apologies if I didn't)
All together it was good day, hope everyone enjoyed themselves and look forward to the next one.
Cheers to Onboard for the NPX assasin wetsuit for the open winner, Tru Blue Hire for the use of the generator, Chris Hail for getting all our backsides into gear and running the event, Johnnie "Chops" Sellars for PA and commentating, Marti Sellars for coordinating the judging, Richard Upton for organising the sign up and Vicki for her skills on the BBQ, Dave and Kim for helping set up and all the sailors that respected the finals area and let the crew sail on their own.
Well done crew - fingers crossed for some bigger waves next time around. Hope fully their will be a few piccies in the near future
Cheers
Russ - on behalf of the organising crew
P.s Monies and registrations will go through to Windsurfing SA this week and your insurance cover statrted from today. Your previous sail numbers will stand - we will post the updated registartion list in a week or so.
Great fun today, I had a blast, big thanks to chris, russ, Richard, johnnie, Marty and vicki, hmmmm sausages ! A foot more swell, maybe two and that would have been all time.
Yep, big thanks to everyone who had a hand in getting the show on the road, and to the sailors who signed up.
Your Windsurfing SA membership will be good for all the WSA events in the year, including the wave events scheduled for Beachport in October, West Coast in Jan, Robe at Easter and the social wave sailing events.
Thanks too to the Kite Association for the loan of the PA - much appreciated. We will make an effort to make it easier for the judges to identify sailors next time too. Sail numbers are good place to start everyone
, and we will try to get some coloured vests for the open guys.
It was great to see people pushing hard to make the most of the conditions - nothing like a comp to fire up your sailing I reckon.
P.S. If I can get a place based on wave selection, there is hope for everyone - not my strongest suite in the past ![]()
had to go to grannies 80th, so only got out before. she didnt stop me from going out today and ripping my sail.
What a fantastic day!
Well done to all the crew that made the event happen - Mr Hale, Russ, Richard, Chopsy, Marty and Vicki.
awesome fun event. just wish the waves were a tad bigger. well actually double what they were! thanks for every one for showing up! it makes everything worth while when people have a good time! will hopefully have one more get together towards end of winter!
Bit of a mistake in the results.
5th Place was TY ANDREWS -
T Roberts
is a work collegue and that may explain my brain fade after a long day and a few cold ales
My apologies to Ty ANDREWS his family, friends and associates and any one else who this may have caused distress or embarressment to and I promise to never make a mistake again, well not with your name anyway!! ![]()
