Howdy crew,
I'm doing a road trip to Adelaide ( from Geelong) with the wife & kid and have managed to convince her that sailing equipment wont take up too much space. So far my plans are to head along the coast with stops in robe and then onto goolwa/victor harbour - into adelaide then up to Barmerra then home. The trip has no solid plans or time limits so any info would be appreciated. Would love some info on the goolwa Alpha channel and any other info re: great camping areas, good pub meals and other vital info. Been on a coopers diet for years so I think I'm ready!!
Cheers

Around the Goolwa area if you launch at Rankings landing on Hindmarsh island thats where all the speeds are getting done at the moment i think. I haven't been there yet but apparently its pretty awesome. On a weekend there's bound to be someone there to show you the area, especially if the winds good. Also the Murray Mouth works well launching from Hindmarsh island again. They're your best shot around the Victor/Goolwa area, unless your into waves. Someone else will have to help you out there though sorry.
As for meals in Goolwa, the Goolwa Hotel has the best and biggest schnitzel i've experienced in SA by far. Shnitty special night is Thursday/Friday and for 10 bucks you get your self a great schnitzel that takes up your whole plate with a whole heap of chips underneath. Even got the best and biggest salad bar i've ever seen as well which goes down pretty well. Plenty of other meals as well to satisfy the rest of the crew.
Cheers
Bubs
I have just told trevor you are coming and he popped his lipstick out......![]()
Let us know when you are in town and we will hook up and show you around!
(Trust you to know about where to eat Bubs!)![]()
The image of trev's lipstick has me a little bit unsettled!!!
We are kinda planning to spend this weekend around robe and then onto Goolwa early next week so we'll see what happens.
As for Bubs culinary advise.. After seeing his hospital pictures he could probably have an extra schnitzel or two if he wants to crank some high GPS speeds!
If your into wave sailing - I am no expert on the area but Beachport might be a slight chance on the weekend dependant on if the little cold fronts push through the SE and it goes a bit NW.
The Onboard site has a few tips on SA locations so does the SA windsurfing org site.
If you stay in Adelaide the Kingston park caravan park is a great location if we get a sw'r - sail out the front of the campsite
Look at the Buoyweather and this might give you a better idea.
Locally there are some great spots to sail but really depends on wind - and knowing the BOM predictions - the better they say it will be the bigger the chance of disappointment.
Good luck - keep an eye on the forum and closer to the weekend we'll may post a few options.
Sunday - 15-25 nw south central and south east - 2-3 foot swell - might be a few options down beachport way - Could the adelaidians be lucky enough to get Dribbleton with wind and waves!
Fingers crossed!
Red, I am in the beachport area, when are you coming through this way, i can show you around a bit if you like, waves or flat ? if you can come around the coast from nelson as the port macdonnel to carpenter rocks section of coast has some unreal wave spots.
Spent two weeks travelling around with the board on the roof. Had one windy day when travelling from Robe towards Meningie. Was keen to sail on the lake there but the kid was grumpy and the caravan park there is pretty exposed (for our campertrailer) so The wife convinced me to travel onwards to Victor Harbour. Saw all the famous spots - boggy lake, alpha channel goolwa, Murray mouth and Sellicks - looked great but no bloody wind. Got home yesterday and the forecast is for a sail tomorrow - hopefully.
Would have been good and at least now when people talk about places on seabreeze I can picture them in my mind..
Hey Jimbob - where's good to sail around Carpenters Rocks? My dad's got a place down there... might have to go visit more often...
Ben, plenty of good sailing spots at the rocks, livingstons bay from pelican point to blackfellas caves is a great winter spot in w to s/w, a lot like lano with flat water ribbon reefs on the inside and waves on the outer reefs and western channel, no sand here all rock and pebble beaches, your dad will catch all his garfish here. cape douglas and nene valley to black rock have down the line cross off in summer sea breezes s/e to e. picks up twice the sweel to robe as its only 20kys out to the shelf compared to robe 80 and beachport 60. used to be half a dozen wave sailing crew out at pebbles but we all have got a bit older and you will normally say 2 to 3 is crowd if that. canunda has 70ky's of beaches and dunes to explore with a 4wd. yes we can drive on the beach here,pm me if you are keen.
