Hi All Speedies,
Discussions on teams merging has again come up as a topic of conversation.

Several teams have a few regulars and some occasionals and it is hoped that by merging some or all of the teams those who want to post a session will have a better chance of 2 team members being on the water. Those occasional sailors will get the benofit of a bigger team community to hopefully lift their sailing to a higher level and increase their enjoyment of our sport.

The OnBoard Speed Demons will be changing names to SA Speed Demons. Would those sailors or the team captains from OnBoard Master Blasters, Barmera Boardheads & SA Gybe Turkeys that want to join us - please add your names to this list so we can have the team finalised by Friday(so we can be ready for posting in March)

For those sailors who feel they will not contribute to the team - it is all about improving and having fun and a PB by your name, whatever the speed, or distance is is a victory to be had everytime you hit the water.

Each sailor wanting to merge into the SA Speed Demons will need to send email notification on the GPSTC website - contact page.

Cheers, Tim H (aka Kimba)

Put me in the team Tim I might not be able to post that much in the next month due to possibility of relocating.

Excellent initiative Tim.

I think this is a great opportunity to combine our local teams, and improve the chances of two team members posting on the same day, thereby giving us a result to post to the GTC comp. Often there will be three sailors on the water during the week, each from different teams. It's still fun, but does not help anyone's results.

I hope the other SA sailors can see the merit in this idea, and that they respond by the deadline.......or they miss out for good(!?)

Hi Tim,

As the Onboard Master Blasters were put together not to hinder the number one team in SA it has always tainted the process. But the OMB have stuck together and havent alway been the fastest but are out there regular enjoying the sport. Most members have sailed together for over 20 years and still share the love of the sport. It has one of the best 60+ year olds in the country plus some dam good 50 year olds and young 40 year old.

But it is about time commonsense prevails. One big team is the way to go. I would like to collate the data for the old OMB team as part of the process to help. As the Captain I am taking licence to merge the 2. The others will be ok as they in it to sail.

Great news Mark,
We all enjoy sailing together and I think this will only increase our companionship and general Fun!

Can you email Ben on behalf of your team to confirm the merge?

Guys,

Good to see you guys taking the initiative.
The only problem I have is making sure that everyone who goes into the new team actually wants to go. The last thing I want to have happen is for someone to be put into a team without their consent.

So if you want to go into the new team, you need to email me (info at gpsteamchallenge.com.au) with your name, old team, and let me know that you want to join the new merged team.

Team captains, please ensure that you get your team members to do this, otherwise they will be left out.

Happy sailing, and best of luck taking on those Swan River Freaks!

I Spoke to Bubs and he thinks they will stay as the SA Gybe Turkeys but will still run it past the other members, I am sure they could join at a later stage if their circumstances change.

So could the other team captains (Rick from BB and Mark from OMB) please get each their team members to post Ben(info at gpsteamchallenge.com.au) with confirmation of their willingness to join the SA Speed Demons(if willing)

Mark, I think the original concept of the challenge was to cap teams at 5 members(Ben correct me if I am wrong) but that was soon scrapped, the teams just stayed the same ever since then.

I have some ideas for team logos(if anyone has some ideas, no matter how bad you think they are send me a priveate message or I will start a logo concept thread) so that we can get some t-shirts made to build team visibility. I know there are some creative people in the team who will have some good ideas.

Cheers, Tim

Hey Nebs,
Might have to run this merger past the ACCC - could be construed as anti-competition behaviour.

Although with the media release I bet the stock price for those smaller teams has shot through the roof.

I'll respect my Team Captains decision the keep Team Gybe Turkey going. We have an ongoing project to sail the same strip of water at the same time.

Well after speaking to dave again i think we have really decided to join in with the super team... seems everyone in SA will be doing the same also.

So add:
- Hamish Bubner
- Peter Bubner
- Alexander Bubner
- Dave Mossop
- Richard Upton

to the super team list...

However it will be a real shame to loose out name lol... "SA Gybe Turkeys"... got many comments for that, thought it was a winner ha ha!!!

Anyway sure this will work out well.

Cheers
Hamish

Great News Guys! I think if one team had not joined it may have had the opposite effect, one of alienation. Just remember that each individual must email Ben (info at gpsteamchallenge.com.au) to confirm their willingness to join SA Speed Demons.

Happy sailing and I hope to see you all soon.

We may all have to buy GPSTC T-shirts to contribute to medal purchases in case we are luck enough to get a medal this year! 20 sessions posted on the same day will look pretty impressive(may melt down the site)

Guys,

Your new mega team is now in place!

As everyone who emailed me was positive about wanting to change teams, I figured that it would be better to put the stragglers into the new team rather than leaving them out in the cold. This was because not everyone reads Seabreeze, and seemed like the best thing to do. If anyone didn't want to change teams then please let me know and I'll happily re-instate any team that you like.

So now the SA Speed Demons has 22 members. There is some really good talent in the new team, and I can hear the other teams quaking in their boots as they realise how powerful you will be!

Fight hard, fight fair, and most of all, have fun

Thanks Hardie.

I was going to pm you but you answered my question anyway. Would love to come and collect it myself - maybe when my kids get a bit older.

Cheers.
