Wasnt planning to go but made a last minute decision at 9:30 am when Cape Jaffa observations shifted more southerly (so sorry Quattro but couldnt give more notice).
Wind forecast looked average (bit onshore and light) and was likely to go more SE during late afternoon. Swell looked promising.
Wind started to pick up at 4:30 but conditions were still poor until 5:30 when it shifted SSE and picked up to 15-20knotts. Swell was good (just over half mast) and some great down the line waves until we had to bail at 7pm.
Happy days.........![]()
Conditions must have got a fark load better then when I was there! I left at 12 cause it was bloody onshore as **** and hardly any swell!
Hi Chris - we got there at 3pm and swell was looking good at that time but yes wind was onshore and light and not worth sailing.
Almost gave up myself at 4:30 but kept glugging hoping it would switch as forecast. It was still light but at least cross-off and with a floaty board no problem.
We tend to get to Robe at bit later on day trips (2:30 ish) as it tends not to come in earlier (unless foreasct to be very strong) and the risk is that you get bored and bail early.
Better luck next time.
Dave, there were genuine over Half mast high waves at Robe on the big sets, hence why Robe is an option over Sellicks if there is a chance and as it goes it worked out yesterday. Scored some solid wave rides and not to mention a few loops for a light fella like me ![]()
Chris, yes, unfortunately you left too early...we had an incoming tide which got very high so that would have pushed up the swell, combined with the wind. The seabreeze at robe quite often increases the swell size as well by half a foot or so.
Hope you guys has a good sail at sellicks, certainly looked windy on BOM.
Divaldo - sailed Sellicks 20 years ago but nowadays Semaphore is my local. Dont mind the drive as "possible" has actually been 5 out of 5 this summer, 9 out of 11 last summer, and 8 out of 10 the summer before that.
With a few mates in the car time goes quick and the feeling afterwards with some reasonable waves makes it worthwhile. Even starting to contemplate day trips to Nene and Walkers!
Nice one guys, just wondering thats all, Im sure we will catch you all at Robe at easter!
Sellicks was nuts yesterday.....I is sore, its like someone hit my thigh with a baseball bat real hard. Powerex masts are tough...
if it wasn't such gusty pooh wind you probably wouldn't be sore.
Kent was so much nicer cleaner wind - set waves were onshore and reasonable size - sellicks was half extension high!!!!!!!
its not robe buttt,,2guys out around 7ish at anzacs on mid on suppers with sails,
small waist high swell,
seaford reef was doable--waist high
trough wooda been ok on tide
plenty of options around locally
i enjoyed sellicks, had a great sail,,nothing like being pummelled by the wind!!
Robe sounds good too,if only they had a road from goolwa to kingston along the coast?
Hi Guys
Just registered for this forum after not sailing too much over the last few years - too much renovating, working and having babies (well my wife did) etc...There are a few familiar faces/names and styles busting in the photos..
Anyway I sailed Robe on this day on my busted up old gear and had a blast. There was a reasonable swell and the breeze filled in more and more, snuck further to the east and cleaned up the swell until I packed it in just before 8pm.
For those who may be interested we bought an investment property at Robe which we rent out as a holiday home. This means two things. 1. I hope to spend more time down there sailing, surfing and diving. 2. - She is a holiday rental - if anyone needs accomodation down there let me know. You can check availability and photos at http://www.stayz.com.au/73950 but hit me up direct and it will save you some coin.
Cheers
Jono
