So how long till we get a decent blow again - I reckon 3 weeks - last April it was about 5 weeks of no sailing - lucky there's a few waves around so at least we get a surf - any bets on when we'll sail again (more than 20 knts)

A pale ale to the most accurate guess!!!

Anybody going to Maui or other exotic windsurfing mecca is excluded from the contest!!! (due to writers jealousy that he isn't going)

I missed out on the duldrems last year, thank god! I was in Europe, maybe I should go back for 4 weeks and 5 days.

How is the leg going Tony? Nice and Itchy?

No I've got the cast off and am into one of those trendy shoes they put you in instead. So I don't have to put up with the itchy leg in the cast or having a shower with a plastic bag over my foot etc.

I'm keen as, even if I can't sail I'm sure I can help out in some way. A local comp has been along time coming, I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I'm sure Brett and Lee-Anne will allow me the time off to be at the comp...right?

I hope things improve in Maui for you Dave. I am sure they will as you will be there in June.

This is from the Maui Blog.
More bad windsurfing news from Maui. April closed out with more pathetically light winds and May has kicked off with the same. Overall weather is sunny and beautiful but the wind is virtually non-existant. Worst April I've personally seen for wind on Maui.

Seriously, there are some ridiculously cheap airfares to Hawaii at the moment, $650 return from Sydney to Honolulu, then the trip from Honolulu to Kahalui is only $50 each way.......c'mon Marty, treat Vicki to a sweet trip away for a few weeks! Didnt Kevin just stimulate you?

hence not travelling to maui on the shoulder season, June July should be perfect trade conditions,

I must admit, last trip was a bit light for 30% of the time,

Hey Dave,
Who's doing flights for $650?
Jetstar are doing flights each way at $321/$341 without baggage, but by the time you add the taxs and charges on it comes to around $900 return.
I reckon I could convince the missus to let me go for $650, but if I try at $900 I might finish up back in the emergency department!

Thanks Dave,
That's about what I got for similar dates.
Any tips on where to stay that's really cheap? There used to be a pretty dodgy place in Paia just up from the servo that was mega cheap... it may have fallen down by now
I've only stayed in Paia in the backsteet almost opposite the servo. That wasn't too bad.
I might have to camp with the homless dudes down by the end of the runway near Kahului!

What do you mean by cheap?

Kanaha Beach park, you wont go hungry, lots of chickens roaming in the carpark these days, just grab one, rip its feathers off, maybe hang with the locals at high tide and catch white bait, grab coffees at the airport, Crispy creams a short walk down Dairy Road..........I would not stay in that carpark after dark though dude!

HI Guys
Just got this email in from Russ ,one of my OES sailors on Maui tonight , sounds like it has been pretty windless and flat for the most of April, but looks like it is about to start blowing again!!

Hi Pete,

Sailed perfect mast high waves today. There was practically no wind, but just enough to slog around and catch waves. There has been no windsurfing for the last 2 weeks, so everyone is freaking out. It is supposed to come back by wednesday or thursday though.

Check out this youtube video that Jake put up recently (

). I am the one on Ezzy sails in the vid. If the link doesn't work, search for maui windsurfing 2008/2009.

Mate, ask Pete and particularly Alice about our adventure in the Kanaha carpark. It started in daylight and finished in near darkness in extremely weird circumstances!
Long story, all I can say is I'm never getting in a rent-a-car with the Boerma's ever again!

I think I'll wait till next year. I've just ordered a board, so I don't think I'll push the finance department any further just yet.
Last time I went to Maui I got there in June/July and it was really windy but no waves. I'd rather go later in the year when Lanes is pumping!

Besides the OES boys might kick me out if I rocked up with my Starboard boards.

Three letters boys. S, U and P. Last weekend was sweet as in the mid and down the far coast. Your missing out...... Its the closest thing to glug wavesaiing I have found. Just swapping your rig for a paddle. Then when its windy, you will feel fitter and like your last sail was just last week......
