Just thought Id introduce myself to you SA guys.
My name is Mark and Im keen to get into windsurfing.
Being from Elizabeth, I plan to sail Semaphore, North Haven etc.
Was hoping there would be a guy or 2 out there in the Northern area that maybe wouldnt mind me tagging along next time they head out for a sail.
I can rig up by myself no problems, but wouldnt mind a few pointers from someone with some experience on gybing, turns etc
I have all the gear ready to sail, just need some confidence/guidance to prevent me from sailing off into Kangaroo Island by mistake!
If anybody from the North sails regularly, It would be great if I could tag along and learn a thing or 2 from them. Any help would be much appreciated :)
btw am chasing a 5.3m-5.7m used sail ,and a 400 mast, if anyone can help me out with either of these items, that would be awesome
Thanks guys!
hey mark.
obviously over winter the scene and peoples drive to get out there is a little low.
Onboard is planning some demo days in october, where you can try some new gear and more importantly meet the crew.
i know for a fact once the water warms you'll have no worries finding a sailing buddy.
if i can help you at all just send me a msg.
good luck!
Hi Darkplague,
Have a look at the Windsurfing SA calendar. There are some calendar day events where we welcome sailors of all levels.

Watch here for news about where the event will be closer to the day.
North Haven in anything NTHly through the winter is a good place to learn and meet a few helpful people. The water stays flat in a good breeze due to break water.
I was hoping to get out at North Haven tomorrow after work but looks like it might be a westerly. Ill head down to bower rd for a look at 4.30 and try my luck there unless anyone could suggest a better spot?
try shark biscuit, he will be sailing there when he comes out of his winter hibernation.......I.m pretty sure he lives uo the north way as well.
Tried to sail today for the first time, hooked up with Sharkbiscuit and he gave me some great help down at Northahven.
In fact everyone was friendly and keen to help.
After about 2 hours of trying, I packed it in.
Couldnt quite get up.
I was using a 112L board for my first time out, and me weighing 105kgs, I was told wasnt a good combination for a beginner.
So Im on the lookout fora cheap beginner board to start out on, something around 140-160L I suppose. If anybody has one laying around unused, please pm me.
Thanks guys.
Hi Mark
You did outstandingly compared to the difficultly of your equipment, and I really mean that. Stick at it, and I hope to sail with you again soon ![]()

as a good cost effective option, tyr looking into a big SUP.
ofetn many of the big SUP's will come with a mast track with be ample enough to float you and when planning will show characteristics of a much smaller board.
otherwise look on seabreeze buy/sell for a old style race board
