Hi All,

My friend is getting back into windsurfing after a few years away and he asked if I would be interested in coming out with him...

I most certainly am but have no idea where to start and I'm not having much luck locating a hire service or somewhere to get lessons. I've checked the windsurfing.org SA section but most of the links seem to have expired...

Any advice on how I can get started here? Is there somewhere I can hire equipment or someone has a basic beginner setup going cheap that gets handed around between the noobs? I saw a previous thread that said there were no hire places in SA so I'm screwed?

Some info that may be helpful -
Age: 34
Height: 183 cm (6")
Weight: 124 kg
Fitness level: better than it was.. not as good as it needs to be... on my way down from 144 last year to 124 this year and falling

Hi, The best person to contact is Matt Stringer at Windsup on 0417858641. (www.windsup.com.au)
Matt is a great guy with a wealth of experience who runs and conducts very professional lessons.

He will certainly steer you in the right path.

Good luck

Hi Newb,

I was in the same position as yourself, looking to get a few lessons but not many people around to teach. Gareth from The windsurf shop in Strathalbyn put me on to a guy Named Dave Rawson 0412158302 he is located down at Victor Harbor if this helps. I have spoken to him and will be going for my first lesson tommorow at Goolwa, I will post how it goes for any one interested.

Cheers Dave

Question, did Dave Rawson have the windsurfing shop at Henley/Grange back in the late 80's early 90's, near the round about, by the pub, end of henley beach road.?

Na, that was another Dave that ran Adelaide boardsailing centre. Surname escapes me at the moment.
Pretty sure Dave Rawson ran windsurfing Glenelg.

Cheers Bondage,

He also had the shop/lesson place at West Lakes for a year or so around 1990. , I knew I knew the name, just couldn't fit the location in, I did some instructing for him.

Not sure if I'm sorted out exactly... but I'm heading in the right direction

Training with Matt tomorrow at West Lakes and I may have sourced a suitable board thanks to legless...

Now I just need to absorb Matt's training and find a sail/mast/boom/all the other bits that aren't board...
