Hi,
Need some advice on the southern end of town, I've only ever sailed Sems an Nth Haven,
I'm on holidays an wanna think outside the box, 2morrow looks better Southern end off town
an was thinking about heading to Moana or Seacliff
Would like to head to Middleton but its a bit out of my league for sailing
Would really appreciate some advice for 2morrow..

Thanks

Hi BigKym,

If the wind is N, Seacliff will be patchy and slightly offshore. Losing ground down wind will take you into the rocks and rip-rap. The wind will probably be strongest about mid-morning. Seacliff is great in a SW seabreeze.

Might be better at Moana tomorrow, but the locals might like to comment.

Regards, Richard

Moana is a possibility as long as its nth or nnw (Ne is a bit offshore and blocked by the houses and cliffs) looks like being pretty flat at the mid so moana is the easiest to access and least reef.

Very often there is a small window from around 09ish until lunch time when the wind kranks and then backs off - if the front is pushing in quick it sometimes lasts longer. If the waves are bigger seaford is worth a look - just can be a bit crunchy on big fins at low tide (fairly low tomorrow after lunch) - don't go by the noarlunga wind meter as it is often reading way lower than whats at the beach - look at the swellnet or surfsouthoz web cams.

Its a 50/50 tomorrow - but if its 18-23 knts and nth-nw Moana should be a blast

enjoy

The forecast has got worse. Whatever the case, I've got the day off and am coming into town.

big kym,you wanna come down here when there is a small wave around and xshores, that would be out of the box,,,,,as the mid hasnt had anything that resembles good wave riding conditions since last winter!!!!!
you will probably get the same conditions at semi, nth haven as da mid ,only stronger wind down here but flattish, enjoy your hols,i have no idea what they are

Hey big kym - Moana was flat and probably sailable at 7am it may be worth a blast if its not happening up north - wish I could join ya.

Good grassy rigging and usually you can grab a feed and a coffee across the road afterwards - but tuesday the Deep blue caf may be closed

Thanks for the advice
But Surfsthoz report was dropping tide, gusty wind an wsw change
an my Seaford cam wasn't working!! So i hit the road anyway an got
stuck in a traffic jam "accident" on Pt river express 30 min an moved about 1km,
I gave up an settled for Nth Haven "No wind" So i thought make the dash to the mid anyway,
Ran into Biscuit an Koshi at sems, We settled for the Chicken Shop as a new place for us to sail, Turned out we all got a sail in,

But Koshi wasn't happy there was no Chicken Shop....

If Saturday deliver`s be keen for a Seacliff session.

Blackpole and Airport read fresh winds all day. Strange how it died in the arse at noon.

just seems a little confusing, not for the gastronomic value, but for the real estate value, "see ya at the Chicken shop" and ya go there and there's no chicken shop.? to a passer by i would say, "hey, is there a chicken shop around here?" No, comes the reply, but see that vacant land there, i think that used to be a chicken shop, i think that chicken shop moved down the road, and its still called the chicken shop.

Hey Sharky, I sailed on the lake as a norherly is too offshore at the beach, helped a couple guys out setting up there gear to get upwind, then had a cruise on the 6.7 and clocked up 104 k's to get a bit of fitness up before the long weekend.

Yeah.. definitely have to build up strength. All that Victorian 4WD enthusiast cussing uses up a lot of energy

PS/ "Wow! Look at those magumbos !" :

If I have any sense, I'll be staying home.

Hi..
Finally made it to the mid, For that Moana session today.
Think i underestimated the wind, taking only my big gear,
Was overpower on my 6.4, but managed to hang on an have a ripper session,
Sailed from 10 till 2,I liked the big rolling swell out the back lucky for me it wasn't breaking...

Good rigging area, shower. Pity the cafe wasn't open, but i did find a fish/chip shop"seaford"

What a great day

Glad you made it -
you wouldn't be the first to undestimate a northerlies strength on the water either - never looks as windy as what it is.

Missed you by a couple of hours I had a nice powered up session on my 6m and freewave at 430 pm with a couple of waves in the shorebreak - water is really murky and not its usual colour at the moment.

its surpirising the size of the swell a few hundred metres off the beach at the mid in a northerley - can get some pretty large peaks yet no decent waves on the beach.
