Hello Everyone.
The Autumn doldrums are here! Plenty of time for more mundane issues.
I'm proposing holding a meeting to re-establish the Adelaide Boardsailing Club, which has been dormant for a few years now but remains an incorporated body in SA:
The idea is to use the club as means of:
1. Providing an incorporated body that can support the activities of groups like the SA Social Wave Sailors and SA Speed Demons, so that people running events under these names have some protection from liability.
2. Have the club affiliated with Windsurfing SA and the Australian Windsurfing Association so that members of the club have third party insurance as part of their membership fee (probably $30 or so). This would also reduce the workload for Windsurfing SA.
3. Use the club to run some more windsurfing events in the Adelaide region. I'm thinking a long distance race along the coast for a start.
At this stage, we just need a handful of people to just turn up and form the new committee. Hopefully not too much work or extra meetings involved. It's basically about getting the "paper work" organised for these things to happen.
Any takers?
Any comments?
Date: Tuesday, 12th May, 7.30 pm
Venue: Kingston House, 5 Cameron Ave., Kingston Park (yes, the big old house in the reserve)
PM or email me if the time or venue is a problem, and we can rejig if needed.
Regards, Richard Upton
Good work Richard - be great to see everyone get behind this and get a state incorporated club running to help out with insurance and events etc (rumor is a council contacted a wave sailor and said you can't run a social wave event on his watch in his council area).![]()
Hopefully a lot of crew will turn up and support your endeavors and throw a few hands up to help out.
Will do me best to get there.
Hi Richard
Sounds like you are on to something, As a long time( old time) sailboarder i also have been on the organisatioal side of a wavesailing assoc. and more recently have been involved in a local surf club and in the last 6 months have had to deal with incorporation , insurances, ect.
I think it's great that a new club is evolving ,so let me know when you are meeting and we can catch up

good effort Richard, I'm out of town that night but hope it all goes well.
a club in the background to handle all the paper work and insurance stuff is a great thing.
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your positive responses! Looks like we have a meeting set for 7.30 pm 12th May at Kingston House.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Now I have to backup my big mouth :-)
Regards, Richard
Well, the time is almost here!
Just a reminder that the meeting will be tomorrow (Tuesday night) at 7.30 pm at Kingston House, 5 Cameron Ave., Kingston Park. We will be in the West Room. Turn right inside the front door.
See you there.
Richard.
Well done all of those that turned up and thanks Richard for organising it
Cheers for the cold ales and wine as well Richard - Kingston house was a great venue.
I sure hope the greater windsurfing community get involved and support the concept.
We all look forward to the overview of the meeting and the proposed 2009/10 calendar of events in wave, speed, slalom, long distance and fun events - some great ideas from all present including alternatives and a look at how the structure of windsurfing looks in Australia and how it would work in SA was fantastic.
Met ANOTHER woman interested in learning to windsurf, told her about our Womens and beginners days. Maybe we could start a database for our next learners event? Sorry we couldnt make it to the meeting.
Thanks to everyone who turned up on Tuesday night! I think we have a great opportunity to build on the good things we already have. A big thank you to those who put their hands up for a bit of committee work. I'm just working on some notes to summarise our discussion and a road map for what to do next and when. Stand by for these soon.
But, for all you SA windsurfers out there it will boil down to this - we are working on a windsurfing club as a frame-work for running some of the events that are already happening in SA, and for adding some more too. The club structure benefits the organisers and the sailors. All we are going to ask of you is to become a member of the club - you'll get third party liability insurance and entry to the events. Membership fees still under discussion, but it will be value for the insurance alone.
Have a look at what the WindWanderers are doing in Qld - mighty impressive - and maybe something we can adapt for SAhttp://www.windwanderers.com/Mission.html
Regards, Richard
Hi Muzza,
I've got times for a couple of runs I did before autumn. Pretty modest speeds but I got there and back both times :-) I'll start a result table when we get the club going soon. I'm always keen to do the run with someone else too.
See you Tuesday 2nd June 730 kingston house to finalise a few things regarding Cub and Windsurfing SA structures
Hi Russell,
Hopefully we should be able to finalise a few things on Tuesday if we can get the "committee" together again. Anyone else is welcome to attend of course - 2nd June, 7.30 pm, Kingston House, 5 Cameron Ave., Kingston Park.
Richard
