South Australian lifejacket laws have changed to help keep our community safe when enjoying our states' waterways.
New regulations came into effect from the 1st December 2017 and an awareness and education phase was undertaken by DPTI Marine Safety Officers for 12 months to enable boaters to become familiar and to replace existing lifejackets where necessary.

End of the day, as long as some Bureaucrat can tick a box that the Government's (perceived) insurance risk is as low as it can be, that's ok right ?

it's a bit of a joke really - how are they going to enforce it? Coast guard and water police can barely check enough boaties as it is. They're not going to bother with inshore water activities.
surfing regulations - not consistent with others...
Imagine the world wide publicity stink that would cause if surfers were required to wear PFDs at breaks ?. I suspect some politicians surf, which is why they are exempt. 50 windsurfers in Adelaide ?, who cares about them.
So if I go for a surf out the front I need a PFD (no matter what I'm riding) - seriously what sort of a ****ing idiot had any input and agreed to this - what a joke
They make it hard to contact but they have an Arsebook Page that you can leave some well constructed comments - but then I am sure they would probably use that to Target you or where you sail.

i won't be long before we have to wear a PDF to go toilet in case we get sucked down the pan. They have no idea and surely did not consult with the user's of ocean before producing this crap.

The law in relation to SAILBOARDERS having to wear at least a Type 3 or 2 PFD up to 400 metres from shore in Semi-Protected waters hasn't actually changed ...we've always had to wear one! Well for at least the last 10 years anyway. Someone might know exactly when it was legislated ...80s/90s?
If you're approached by the water police, just jump in the water and say you're swimming. Swimmers don't need any safety devices.

no - not for surfing out the front, BUT if you were to try and surf IN Lake George ...yes, by law - you would need to wear a PFD. 
Windsurfing in LG would as we are beyond 400m from shore. But I value my safety/ life so no life jacket for me
I heard they won't fine you directly.
The Ranger will wait til you open up your car and the fine will be issued to the owner of the vehicle.
