Hi all I am keen but Sh!thouse sailor and I am wanting to sail in some reasonable waves. However I have tried this before eg: Seaford in a NW but I quickly found out that i am even more sh!thouse jumping on starboard tack.

So where in SA/Adelaide can i find bearaway waveriding conditions while on starboard tack?

I normally sail semaphore and North haven but its all upwing wave riding unless there is some freak swell/wind combinations.

Sam.

I started sailing in the 80's and class myself as a very competent long board tactical course racer. I too am sh* house in waves or on short boards courtesy of never really getting into that style of sailing (hey maybe someday I will but until then I'll do what I'm good at). As I see it in order to get the conditions you are after you'll have to do a fair bit of driving. As the current fuel prices and economy aren't that good you could always get a long board and come and join us for some racing instead!:)

try the mid coast in a Southerly - its usually gusty and up and down but if you can plod out and get a few thats about it- this is the frustrating part of wanting to wave sail and never geting the swell and wind you need.

Further south during summer is sometimes OK for some occaisional chest high beach breaks - but the gullies hardly ever line up with the swell

The Northerlies at the mid are good -but as you say jumping on that tack -whatever it's called takes a bit of getting used to - but for a natural foot surfer getting some rights its unreal.

NW at day street are a challenge sometimes - Havn't sailed it a lot but had a couple of good waves and the obligatory swim in the impact zone - 25knts on the beach, 25 knts out the back and 5 knts in the wave zone

Good luck - best bet is get into the northerlies - if they ever arrive.
