Just had a chat with Kyms dad down at Goolwa, the lake is filling rapidly, 700mm of water higher all over the lake, more by the weekend.
Not sure if enough for a slalom comp on weekend, but not far off.
They held a yatch race there on the weekend, was shallow in parts but sailable,
Be great to have the barrage area back to get the wife and kids out there on the Funster - really miss it as learning spot - I reckon most of us have spent some time there catapulting and getting our first few planning runs when we were learning.
all fresh rain water - how friggin cold would it be!!!!!!!!!!
Even with the lake full you should be able to sail in some reasonably flat water, might be a bit gusty but shouldn't be a problem.
No problem for semi Professionals like yourself & Kimba
What about normal wanna be's like Me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carl and me sailed goolwa on sunday all the exposed banks are covered over but only ankle to knee deep at the moment not long though till its deep enough to sail everwhere again.
Those tube worm coral are going to be a BIG problem can't believe how big they can grow, with all that extra water it's going to be a minefield.
Thats great news.... used to love sailing at the aqua cafe and barrage. Will miss the speed stip but theres always the Murray mouth for a good SW'er.....
Hey Bubs do you still browse the forums?
- its been a while. You wouldn't have gotten all of your new sails wet yet would you?
I was down at the aquacaf last week, just for a look, not sailing.
I'm not sure if there is a bit of water flow over near rankines keeping the water quality ok, but I don't think anyone will get in at the aquacaf at the moment. The water at the boat ramp there is a bit of a toxic green colour!
Hopefully it clears up, I was hoping to take the kids down this summer for some 'fresh water' blasting!
The lake, surprisingly, looks much better than just a week ago!
The water has gone from the green muck of last week to it's normal brown.
Here's some photos of the spots mentioned over past few weeks.
Aquacaf looking across where the big exposed sandbank was.
Near the barrages, taken out the front of the jetski hire place... still needs quite a bit more water for this area.
Rankines. You could already see how the smooth water has become a bit choppy with the increase water level. It was blowing around 15 knots on a perfect angle for the speed runs, but the glassy water isn't there anymore. For everyone else it looked awesome... perfect for nailing your gybes etc. It was flat, just not glass.
