Packed and off straight to Ballina in the morning Ty- no time for a Gerroa stay this time unfortunately.
Fridays forecast looking good up there - see ya there josh
Might have to borrow that 89 Thruster for a demo if you're taking the trailer up
Update: sailing south side of flattock friday - some good size sets and 15-20 knts - takes a bit of getting used to lots of water and very short period swells - some of the local crew carving it up - only 1 broken mast - not mine - im some punchy outer bank waves.
No sailing today - contest brief and 3 surfs.
Forecast for 20knt SE in the morning so comp on early
Martin & Kate and crew doing a great job organising and they're a good friendly crew up here - not too much stink eye sup'n the point this morn
After 0800 brief - a clearing of the north end of the beach due to a "shark" and a 25 mm thunderstorm with some very scary lightening flashes in the rigging area. Had a sup down the beach - until the shark chopper was circling over head.
2ish some wind arrived the comp ran an expression session (bottle o rum for first prize) then juniors and womans heat in pretty tough light cross on comditions - we needed Kym here to provide some competition for Kate who is the only women in the field - and sailed it well in up and down conditions. Juniors did well in the conditions with some nice airs and back hand wave riding in the final.
Free sailing after the junior final and the wind went more cross shore stronger and provided some nice size set waves to bareaway on. A few pics on the facebook page - link on the wave sailing thread - taken by dave lanes twin down to the camera lense and straw hat - OMG it was spooky - and a nice fella as well
Great welcome bbq and beers in lennox after the comp and get to know the friendly crew up here.
Long wet day!!
Looks like the possibility of a bit of breeze today
Good to hear how its going up there Russ....watch out for the bitey things!
Prophetic Mark - someone nibbled at ballina today hope they are ok - freesailing yesterday due to no wind until comp called off for day snd crew went to currumbin some very fun supping then southerly came out of nowhere and goldie local sam ripped the crap out of it for several hours - then big will kate, martin and slim cracked a few head high glassy peelers.
Today was glassy head high flatties with an expression short board and SUP session - fun waves in torching sun - head was baking - brewery bus ride tomorrow after a surf (if beaches open)
Forecast improving for friday & sat to run the rest of comp - did i mention its a really nice place to hang out surf and relax
All beaches "closed" in a 20 km radius of ballina today - yep overkill to the max.
Beer bus tour to stone & wood brewery mmm nice beer then sesh at byron beach front pub
Things should crank up in next few days as winds go nne tomorrow crew are primed for wave sailing / yewww
All heats and finals run today started off early around 15 knts - some tough conditions finding the right waves in comp area. Wind kicked later and then jumps were included / some big moves goin down - great to watch.
Full list of results should be up on facebook wavesailing page sometime soon.
I was Pipped at the post in the man on man semi so didnt make the final. Possible double eliminations on sat if enough wind - justin (gestalt) 2000 shots so there will be some good ones to come.
Great standsrd of sailing in all divisions - comp organisers did fantastic job in a trying week waiting for wind
Hope you got on it today looked like a good forecast back home
