It's not a Windsurf topic but I thought I try it this way..
As a foreigner I want to buy a campervan in Sydney and sell it in Perth..
What I have to look for?
What is the best, easiest way to get a campervan(I know some pages like gumtree, carmarket sydney?...)? What is greenslip?
Can I take the plate over?
What is a Rego=Registration?
Can I take it over? How can I extend it?
Insurances to make?
Any other tips?
Thank you very much
cheers,..from a swiss windsurfer

Hi mate,
Marty and Vikki here, we spent 4 years travelling around Oz before we started studying a few years back. These are our recommendations;
What I have to look for?
Don't buy or hire a wicked camper as during the four years we travelled round Auz we saw more on the back of trucks than on the road.
Toyota Hiace's are a good van and cheapish to fix . We had a ford econovan camper which was also a great van. If you prefer a 4WD a toyota troop carrier makes a great camper.
What is the best, easiest way to get a campervan(I know some pages like gumtree, carmarket sydney?...)? What is greenslip?
I'd use gumtree or carsales.com or tradingpost.com.
Can I take the plate over?
The rego number usually stays with the vehicle.
What is a Rego=Registration?
Yep should cost about $500 for a year. look on ezyreg for more details
Can I take it over? How can I extend it?
Yes you can take over any rego left but you will have to pay stampduty on the purchase price of the vehicle. Make sure the car is registrated and has a current road worthy certificate if your buying it in sydney. A trick to use if your buying from a private person is to write a reduced purchase price on the rego transfer form, this advoids having to pay to much for stamp duty.
Insurances to make?
Best bet is to get thirdparty fire and theft. this way your covered if it gets stolen. You get third party property with rego.
Any other tips?
Get in contact when you make Adelaide Tino, there's always room in the driveway for a fellow windsurfer.

I think the Green slip is a roadworthy slip you need in nsw to get your rego - checked out by a mechanic as road worthy - You also have to buy your own ctp insuranceIn nsw I don't think it's part of the rego like here - but I cld be wrong
