Just letting you guys know the Lake george channel to the sea has again been cleaned out with an excavater and the sea water is flowing in Ok on the higher tides. have a big swell and high seas coming on the weekend will ride the bike around and see if the water is making it into the middle lake. (if the cracked ribs finally get better, had a BIG stack on the long weekend.) I will try and get some pics as well. Carl thinking of getting a GPS what sort do I need. Jimbob.
Hi Jimbob,
Good to hear about lake george. Keep us posted on the lake situation. The monday of the long weekend was awesome. Would be great to have another weekend down there. The gps to get at the moment is the navi gt-31.
Cheers.
Carl, had the big stack
on the bike over the dunes not sailing, bloody harder to recover from when you get older.
The lake was opened on Friday, last year was a stuffup when it was opened too early and sanded up and then it wasn't properly opened until September and missed all the high winter tides. they only have a budget to clear out the channel once a year. the timing looks a lot better this year as we have real high tides at the moment, will get some pics when i can. Where is the best place to get a GPS from Pete at Onboard ?.
Hey Jamie,
Great to here the lake level might be topped up. I'm thinking I'll be over there Sunday for a kite if the wind stays as forecast.
Ian
Ian, I need another week for the ribs to come good, looks like wind from the north for another week, with all these off shores my boys are surfed out and snapped most of there boards. James should be at his new shed near surfbeach and will be looking for a kite as well.
Noticed the winds for Sunday has dropped off a fair bit
Give me a ring when your back on deck and I'll come across.

hey jimbob, hoping to get over to beachport in 3 weeks for a sail( couple of us from portland) just wondering how lake george is fairing?Any info would be great
cheers mark
Chef, there has been huge tides here and heaps going into the lake, had a look 2 weeks ago and water was getting from the little into the middle lake. there was still a dry strip to the big lake. but is looking promising, still will be a lot of mud around the outside. the kites where on the middle lake then but looked to shallow for our fins. 3 weeks time should be OK. can sail on the big lake just a huge walk out. will take some photos soon. The bay and surf is always my first option. pm me as I am always keen for someone to sail with and have just got an RS4 sail for the lake I need to try out.
Jimbob.
cheers jimbob will be in contact ( have got sailhack keen might see if we can get some more guys from this area)
mark
Hey Chef,
I was kiting on the middle lake 2 weeks ago and it was great for us but as Jimbob said it would be too shallow for you guys.
I reckon launching from the spit and sailing in the top lake would be ok.
Jimbob, give me a ring if your planning a get together. Might bring my new bike over and have a crack at the sand hills as well.

Chef and Sailhack, on October long weekend there will be a windsurfing event at Beachport , speed out the lake and waves at surfbeach , last year the SA social wave sailors ran this for the first time and we had about 40 sailers. top weekend. we would like some more vics to come over seeing as it halfway for you all and the adelaide crew, waves are expression sessions so plenty of sailing for all and might try and organize some buoys from the yacht club for some old wave slalom carnage in the surf.
A few of us from Geelong did the Lake trip in 2006 and had a ball. Beachport is a great place, good food, relaxed and had a great time sailing on the lake. I'll definately try to rustle up some interested parties for another trip and catch up with the crew that were so friendly and accomodating last time.
Sounds good to me jimbob will just have to check roster ( i do FIFO 4 and 1 in WA )
Scotty sounds keen to head over still so hopefully the wind gods will play ball![]()
cheers Mark
Was at B'Port/Lake G' at Easter on the bike, any chance of getting that grader/excavater to create/extend a speed bank on the lake![]()
Spotty, I sailed on the lake saturday morning from the spit on the big lake side, the water has come ups heaps the last 3 weeks and I only had a small walk out. It should be right up to the 5 mile drift on the middle lake in a couple more weeks. I don't think the water will ever get to the height to sail right along side the spit again. The track over the rocky hills between the gate and cattle grid has had a big dozer through and can you now have car access to the spit.
Looks good for more big swells this week and drain M is again running well after the big rains we have had so the water level should improve even more. jimbob.
I was kiting there on the weekend.
Bottom end of the lake is still to swallow for windsurfers,ok for kites.
Top lake (nortern side of spit) has plenty of water in it. (A bit of a walk out to deeper water tho).
The spit is not and probably will never be as good as it use to be.![]()
The track from the gate to the spilt is now passable in a 2 wheel drive car as per Jimbo's previous posts.

I will be sailing there tomorrow and will take some more pics, sailed the middle lake from the 5 mile drift late last sunday no worries at all. (where the gravel road ends). bloody windy here now,,,
Some latest photo's of the lake from yesterday (Wednesday 26th August)
5 mile drift, middle lake, end of gravel road. 5 to 10 metre walk out.
middle lake from spit looking back to town.
Out the spit, big lake right side - 50 metre walk out then over your head deep 300 metres out, middle lake left side - 75 metre walk out and only chest deep in the middle, you can stand up anywhere here, good for stuffed gybes !!
the spit big lake side.
Dzub here is the photo of the rocky hill, been bulldozed no worries in a car now.
Surf Beach, always plenty of water here, the swell has been pumping lately.
and finally Lake Divaldo
(salt lake/poll of silioam) is full,
Lake Divaldo hahahahahah!
I reckon we should have a short course slalom race on the Pool of Siloam,
The Divaldo Cup!
PS: I cannot believe the track down to the spit, that looks amazing!
Thanks for the pics jamie!
Remember guys, respect the farmer.
Shut the gate, stay on the track and take all rubbish home.
