Hi People,
Just a reminder it's on again this Wed 16th Nov at Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club. First Start 6pm. Was a great social occasion last time, so don't miss out.
Looks like an offshore gully wind is on the cards. Probably one of those occasions where wearing a pdf is a good idea. Not that I want to be controversial or anything.
Regards, Richard
Johnny here from the band collection day. Thanks for having us at your event tonight, we had a ball. We'd be really keen to bring the whole band down one night if you want us.
We have a gig at the Uni bar on the 16th of December and would love if any of you could support us:). We are SUPporting (like my pun!) four other bands and are on first about 8:30!! I'll post more details as we get them.
Thanks again for the great night all!!
Johnny.
Hey Johnny, thanks for the music. You guys are great - really added to the atmosphere. I'll try to catch one of your gigs. You on Facebook or something?
Another excellent evening for the windsurfers. About 6 Wallys I think, and 3 "others". Looked like at least 15 SUP guys. At 5.30 it looked like glass, but the gully wind crept in about 5.50. Tony set a V-course, which had us in a very gusty 5-15 knots. The fleet was cut back a bit by equipment failures, late registrations and stacks. The carnage at the first mark when the SUP's and windsurfers converged was spectacular.
Turns out I got the details of the racing slightly wrong in my previous report
. But here is what I saw last night. The last beat to the finish line was very tight tactical racing - 4 boards crossed the finish line within 30 sec of each other: Dave T on a Wally, Marty S on a Mistral, Richard U on a Kona and Mal H on a Wally. Great fun and very even racing despite the variety of boards.
There is still an unmet demand for Wally's and raceboards, so if you have one in the rafters you have buyers here!
Thanks again to Tony at BYSC, Onboard and Severne. And I believe Starboard for the snags?
A final comment: If you retire from racing, sign off back at the clubhouse or at the finish line and make Tony's life easier. Also, any help to get the rubber ducky back on the trailer would be welcome I'm sure.
A final final comment: Those of you haven't sailed the gully wind much before at Seacliff. It's a great option on a longboard in a summer evening, but keep in mind the gully wind can build through the evening to 30+ knots some days. Keep an eye on it and be conservative. I carry a mobile phone if I'm out by myself.
Cheers.
Richard
Whens the next one?
Cant make it before 730pm cause of kid sports till early December - but we ended up with a 7 pm Moana sail - shorey was going off last night in a almost direct offshore ese - 0-20knts and over headhigh peaking sets - gear smacking fun - no breakages some how - I think Hale tried to drown and snap his ankles off in a no wind closeout!!
1st & 3rd Wed of the month, so I make it 7th Dec. We're all drinking beer by 7.30 pm Russell ![]()
Heard there was a swell down south - always a good option.
Richard, I have a Mistral PanAm raceboard (state of the art epoxy - circa 1983) which I would be happy to loan to someone to use for the racing season. They would just need a rig.
Dont think im ready to sell it yet, to much sentimental value....![]()
Can't believe me and my gear survived that thrashing at moana. Bloody good fun. Wish I wasn't working so hard otherwise I would have came past!!
Bondage - a Mistral Pan Am! Those were the ones with 50 footstraps and a narrow tail?
I think they developed for Pan Am race in Hawaii, which I think usually blew like stink.
Thanks for the offer. If there is anyone here looking to borrow, drop Bondage a line.
Thats the one Richard, heaps of footstraps, massive centreboard and state of the art adjustable mast track at the push of a button.![]()
