We all know it happens here in SA, but deny it happens, after Easter each year until the NWester's arrive in late May early June with the first winter cold fronts. So to say you are a windsurfer to anybody who don't sail or know anything about windsurfing at this time of year make you look like a wally boarder floating around in 5 to 10 knots on flat water on an one design windsurfer/ SUP and calling it hardcore!!
Now it's a time to take stock of what you want to improve with your sailing this winter/ spring and how best you are going to go about it. Either it may be an equipment up grade or a resolve to ''Harden The F@#K Up'' and go for the next big move that is holding you back .
This is the best thing about wavesailing , you will never fully master or get bored of it and you can always improve.
Look at Mark Angulo at the moment @ 44 years of age, he is still pushing new avenues of wave sailing the younger guys are not even looking at the moment . I know Mark well ,he is the most quitely spoken guy you could meet ,until he hits the water line at Hoopkia , then he lets his sailing do the talking.
I have talked to him about it, and he said he will lay in bed at night dreaming up new moves in his head then commits himself to being worked 200 to 300 times[ in front of the rocks @ hookpia] before he get enought mind/ muscle memory to to finally pull it off .
This can do attitude , should be adoped by all, this will push our wavesailing sport to new levels and back into the main stream watersport media , along with forcefully pushing us windsurfing designers to follow you the wave sailor with your new demands on design , and not us forcing onto you ,what we think is best for you!

Just getting planing would be pushing windsurfing to new levels at the moment.

Let alone even contemplating a new move - like getting the fins actually out of the water. Thank god the surfs been OK

Hi my Names Cain,

I used to Windsurf ages ago. Just wondering if there's any hints or tips to help me get back onto the water ASAP.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Cain, thanks for your comment, have you considered knitting? Maybe long walks along the beach? Poetry?

As Russ said. lucky there have been a few waves around lately....

How is Kurt fairing?

He just wants to get on the water, the last quality sail we had was at Beachport.

Also Kurt got a great first term school report and if he did that he could have a dayoff during the week, so he has been stuck at school with no days off and hasn't been WS .

Living where he does he may have some advantages I think.

To try a move 300 times I would have to be doing it every run for the next decade living here.

I continue to practise the same move EVERY time I go out without fail...

Im getting much better at perfecting the Catapult and keep getting flung further and harder every time!

Dont know that I would brag about doing 200-300 of them....

geeze, i must be the only one lovin it. i get sick of he same old so, same old so been sup on a 7'7" x 27" 98 litre starboard which is like lightwind sailing a 80 litre wave board. so sweet on the back hand, board rips. so in 3 months when the wind is back, i am going to be ready to put the sup on ice and sail again. for the mean time, you blokes should get on it, better than crying about the wind or lack of......... different tool for different conditions

My surf vs sail ratio is as follows 5 surfs to every sail . Easy

try FNQ for relief from doldrums- been 20+kts for last 2 weeks, 25+ last couple days. 25 degree water temp, 30 deg day time temps, 20 min. check qld obs- arlington reef history if u dont believe me. only bad news is tea baggers have over run the joint.
jetstar fly direct to cairns, cheaper than flying to sydney.

I left some cards of a very good booking agent with Pete at onboard who specialises in cairns northern beaches rentals, he was gonna leave em on the counter??

while you've been slacking off having flashbacks Rossy, ive been working hard developing 2013 OES shapes; and they are gonna be sick. got some killer graphics from local and overseas artists too; not discounting Rossys psychadelic sprays just more warhol than mr squiggle

im off to bali next week, anyone sailed there? can u get decent kit for hire?
if not i'll be charging down ulu on an eski lid or stick and picking reef out of my ass.
its bound to be good sailing while im away so the doldrums will be done.

btw HAAK i sailed up at point danger that late saturday arvo after you went home, three rain squalls came through and it was head high cross off. i had a 20 minute swim in the dark as the wind pissed off that will teach me to not be so eager

Canggu is really good. Forecast for next week looks good too. But no rental gear - gotta take a big waveboard and a 5.7. Can leave it at the warung.

I don't think I've ever seen a windsurf in waves over there.
Grab you eski lid and head up the Balian. Quite and great little wave.
Heading that way myself in July, can't wait.

Big seas and wind all week Pilly. Yahoo

Pilly you can hire gear ar sanur to use inside the reef there but the gear was crap and old, the monofilm sails you couldn't see through will bust at anytime then they will hit you up for it. not worth hiring .about the only other place that has gear is club med at nusa dua, won't hire it out as for guests only. no wave gear only freeride but they had about 40 boards and they won't let you use it at low tide which was in the afternoon when the wind was up. the gear looked ok though.
I went out the reef at nusa from the melia on a jp funride 200 litre thing that was fun.this board had no uni joint just the safety rope and no matter what they told me thats all it comes with, no bloody idea the idiots and then they reckon I can't go out unless I had a lesson from them first, walked next door hired a wally for ten bucks took out the uni come back and took off straight out the reef and just waived back to them all arvo when thay tryed to get me back.
around kuta and legian didn't see any sailors.
take plenty of surfboards as my boys normally take 3 each and are lucky to bring any in one peice.
