A few crew have booked the weekend in and planning on heading down on Friday the 22nd.

There were powered sites at some of the van parks and some cabins available (as of 3:30pm 19/12) when I rang.

Format - social but very focussed on time in the waves (cause we have forgotten what they look like it's been so flat lately).

Will post the formalities closer to the date.

Have a great xmas - hope you get some waves and stay safe and I hope santa brings you that bit of gear you've been hanging for all year.

Camping in the sand dunes is the best way to do it Jay!
I used to do it all the time, cops go out there from time to time but seem to be cool with it.
A few years back we had 4 cars parked on the reserve across the road from the Pub and we all slept in our cars overnight and they still didn't hassle us... they were probably too busy with the New Years Yobo's to have time for us though!

Yeah. There is nothing like being sent to sleep by the sound of waves.

Windsurfing has taught me not to plan. I'll try to book a room at the hotel
that has the heated swimming pool (last minute). Having failed that, it's
1st class at the 3rdRamp Royale.

Hi Guy's - count us in too! There's a decent chance for side off wavesailing, but bring a surfboard and stay for an extra day or two because murphys law means the day either side of the weekend will go off! Hey Sharkbiscuit, I'd camp out at 3rd ramp, the park on the Nora Creina rd (2 mins from Robe) or in the The Little Dip Conservation park - all great camp sites and close to Robe... it's changed a bit with camping down there, partcularly on long weekends!!! See Ya There - Pete

It's getting closer -This Australia day weekend at Robe is all about wave sailing - we're hoping to see some big air, and hopefully everyone pushes each other to go a bit higher and a charge a bit harder - fingers crossed for conditions like easter 08

Plan to meet on Saturday the 24th at third ramp around 1100 and make some plans - dependant on the weather.

Fingers crossed Huey will provide the wind and waves - word is the wind was pretty good and a few small waves there last weekend!

For those of you going to Tasmania (if anyone is) for the nationals it might be a good warm up!

Will post some more details as we get closer - hopefully a seven day wind and swell forecast on the Wednesday night before Aus Weekend.

Cheers

Yeh, the wind last Friday and Sat was SE 20 to 25 knots, but not a lot of swell,. looks a good forcast windwise for next Sat as well (SE - 17 to 23 ) but only a 10 foot swell.

Hi Hail. I'll definately bring along some snags for your barby. I'm hoping it goes off
for you guys, but I'm also hoping that it's going to be placid enough for my experience
level :). At the moment, anything above 25knots is too much for me (i'm a kiter !).

the seven day Marine forecasts are expecting a strong sw change thursday and new high developing on friday - the swell net wave forcast is looking promosing.

From Swell Net - re waves for Aus Day weekend:
Long term forecast (6+ days):
The longer term outlook looks very interesting for the southern coasts of Australia as a deepening low pressure system tracking east at a similar latitude to Heard Island on Monday and Tuesday, coupled with a strong high pressure system in the Indian Ocean is set to produce a large and prolonged 45-50kt WSW fetch into Wednesday night, followed by a weaker 30-35kt SW fetch into Thursday. This will lead to the development of a very large WSW swell, with a fairly strong SW component as well, arriving along our coasts during Friday next week. And to add an extra cherry on top, another system following not far behind looks to create another large swell, holding wave heights up well into the following week. But before we jump the gun, we’ll have to reassess the formation of these swells on Monday.

Only a few more days 'til everyone will be heading down to Robe.
Hopefully we'll get a good turnout for the event and some great sailing conditions!
MauiSails have offered some prizes for a random draw of all entrants, so even if you don't think you're a full on wave sailor, you can still be in the running for some great prizes.

See you all there!

WIND - Fresh to Strong nww on Friday arvo predicted - if you can get there early afternoon Beachport may be worth a look for some waves.

Saturday - a SW change predicted- may be cross on at third ramp - some swell predicted - closer to town may be an option for more cross shore.

Sunday - looking a bit sketchy.

Monday - 17+ knt SSE with swell - very promising - a bit too far to predict - will post 7 Day wind charts weds/thurs

As its only Tuesday, would you be able to post an up to date forecast for all the windsurfers on say Thursday morning? That would be sweet.

What is the swell forecast?

Swellnet was predicting plenty of wsw swell over the period.

Quote swell net-
The swell looks as if it will peak during the early hours of Friday morning providing large waves along both the South and Mid Coasts before easing slightly into the afternoon/evening. And even more interestingly it looks as if winds will turn back to the WNW as another frontal system fires up and approaches from the WSW. What this means is that the Victor region will have some great waves on offer with a large swell and cross-offshore winds creating clean waves in protected locations. It must be pointed out that these protected locations will offer the smaller wave heights but you have to give a little to get a little. The Mid will be pretty bumpy and broken up but there should be plenty of size, opening up plenty of options.

Looking towards the start of the weekend, another increase in medium to large sized SW swell should arrive during the morning providing solid waves along the South Coast and continuing waves along the Mid. This swell will be created by the second frontal system, which is predicted to fire up during Thursday to the SW of WA, producing 35-40kt winds, with a period of 40-45kt winds predicted into late Thursday/early Friday. Unfortunately, winds for this swell will be dicey as the front responsible is expected to bring a moderate to fresh SW change during the early hours of Saturday morning creating less than ideal conditions along both coasts.

Long term forecast (6+ days):
Looking at the longer term outlook, it looks as if the swell will ease into early next week, but we may see yet another increase in medium to large swell for Tuesday as a third strong frontal system is expected to fire up late Friday and into Sunday creating a fairly strong and prolonged WSW to SW fetch, but we'll have to have another look at this third possible swell on Wednesday. In the meantime enjoy the calm before the storm with great conditions on offer early for the following couple of days, and i'll see you back here Wednesday.

Hey Tino,

The forecast is looking really crap for kiting, but great for windsurfing!

I'm sure any kiters heading down to Robe will respect the comp area for the windsurfing event... right!

Hey Muzza,

As long as the wind is anywhere between 10 and 35 knots it'll be good for kiting.

I'll find some waves to play with.......

FOLLOWING THREE DAYS :
Saturday : Isolated light morning showers about the Upper Southeast coast, and
the Lower Southeast. Fresh northwest to westerly winds turning southwesterly
early morning then moderating later in the day.
Sunday : Fine. Mild and partly cloudy about the coast. Generally warm and
sunny inland. Light variable winds, becoming moderate to fresh southwest to
southeasterly.
Monday : Fine and mostly sunny. Mild to warm with light to moderate
southeasterly winds, fresh at times near the coast during the afternoon.

Sounds promising, bit of swell about too.
