Hi Guys,

Did anyone get out tonight? Was there any wind off the local coast. Outer harbour was reading in the upper teens from about 3pm onwards. Want to get out after work one night.

Cheers.

Arrived home at 6pm and it looked great for the 6.8m and slalom board at Semaphore ... only problem is that the slalom gear is not great fun in the choppy Semaphore waters.

Guess I could have sailed upwind to Grange or headed out a few kms to deeper waters, but I skipped this evening as I had two good sails on Sunday & Monday at Semaphore.

Hi Quatro,

I only have slalom and speed gear but the lakes are full and choppy now too and would be nice to ride closer to home sometimes. How is semaphore with the slalom gear? I have heard out the back has some flat sections. I rode there several years ago on a mistral flow and it was fun. Might try and head out thursday after work - will see how it goes.

Might see you there.

I have definately had some good slalom sessions at Semaphore ... with a 9m and 131L slalom board in 12-13 knots or with a 6.8m and 105L in about 15-16 knots. It helps to find deep water either by heading to the horizon or going south towards Grange where it gets deeper closer to shore.

Semaphore works ok for slalom sailing if you stick to the lower end of the wind range of your sails. But I find if the wind picks up, eg 19 knts with a 6.8m, whilst fun at Somerton, is no fun at Semaphore.

Having said that, I haven't used my slalom gear at Semaphore for over 12 months. In summer, I can usually get out 2 to 4 times a week with my 6.2m wave sail and freewave board around 5pm to 8pm so that is enough. No need to rush there earlier than 4pm.

I sail about 100m north from the old 'Chicken Shop' location and might go up or downwind time permitting. The odd person sails just south of the Chicken Shop and obviously a bunch at Bower Road.

Quick pic from Sunday ...
