Announced this morning by Water Minister Karlene Maywald on ABC radio, work has started this week on the 'Clayton Regulator'.

She said that it will be completed by the end of July. Water levels will start to rise immediately, and the water in the Goolwa basin (alpha channel and clayton channel) will rise by 1.3m to reach 0.3m above mean sea level.
Bugger.
It appears that no one has consulted the SA Speed Demons.
We will have to turn to Lake Alexandrina for more speed sailing options, and I am confident that we have many great spots out there - just a little harder to gain access.
I honestly thought that we would have the rest of the year at least to keep speed sailing here, but it appears not. Mind you, this could be just more Government talk.....
If only the SA Speed Demons could claim "Secret Windsurfer's business" and somehow stall the works. I recollect a similar thing happening where some women stopped a bridge, or something like that. Don't know exactly where that happened though ![]()
Don't understand why they are going to pump water from Lake Alexandrina and not flood the pruposed area with sea water beach frontage is worth more than river.
It looks like the government has finally cracked from the pressure of water front property owners and local tourisum operators but they aren't achieving anything because they are creating another problem by taking water from Lake Alexandrina.
Our lake(bonney) is getting 26gigs in the next couple of months which will rise the level by 1.7m.
They intend building temporary culvets in the embankment to let the water in last time syphons were used which would you believe cost $100K for a contractor to install the government could have purchased their own for under $20K and to add to the insult they used contractors from NSW and not locals.
We better make the most of the next month or so as we will not get a strip this good again. However when they do flood it the 900m currency creek regulator would be good on NW - W - SW. Ah, always looking for the next option, this strip was too good to be true!
