any Pryde owners that used the newer x-over sails from pryde (excess, expression etc) with x-combat for blasting/b&j?? i have the option of going X6 SDM.. what do you guyz think, performance wise? sail sizes 5-6m, sailor weight 85kg
Thx!
Hey Mark,
Both will work well but if you've got the choice I would definitely go for the x-combats. I switched from x6 to x-combats a few years ago and am super happy I did. I'm also 85kg and use a 6.1m firefly (re-named expression) and it works really well with the x-combat 430. I use x-combats now in all my sails for speed, freestyle, bump & jump and waves and I am 100% comfident in their performance.
- Super light
- Will last forever (I've been using mine for 4 years and counting)
- easier/quicker/better for sail when rigging/derigging with a skinny
Only downside is they seem to get stuck together occasionally but I seemed to have resolved that by giving the end a quick wipe when I pull it apart after each session.
thats great but firefly was desgined around rdm :P
what about sails designed around 430 SDM like excess, hellcat? you ever used those?
If you have a look on the neil pryde website you will see that ALL their masts are based around the same "progressive flex curve"
So the curve characteristics should be similar between the SDM and RDM masts.
also noticed that if you look at the page for the X6 RDM, the related sales is the excess, so you shouldn't have any problems there.
From Boards mag 430cm mast test May 07:
I've currently got a 430 X6 mast which I used in a 5.4 Excess prior to last season and would definately agree that X Combat is ideal choice!
