Hi there.
Im travelling to QLD via plane in a couple of months and want to bring my windsurf gear. I haven't flown with gear for prob 20 years, so i long ago i got rid of my bag.
As it will probably be a one off, i was wondering if anyone if Sydney area had a quiver bag they were no longer using in their garage and wanted to sell (that can go on a plane, around 230cm or so seems to be the length limit with jetstar)
Cheers

If you haven't already booked your flight, try to go with Virgin or Qantas instead as they take longer bags on the 737. The 2.3m limit on the Jetstar A320 could be tough to fit even a board bag in. Plus they charge you a $25 "oversize" fee for anything over 1m length.
If you do end up buying a bag, invest in one that has a set of wheels. Your shoulders will thank you.

I rang and asked Jetstar a while ago and asked why they won't take windsurfing gear told me they won't take sailing gear because they put all luggage in those cage thingy's and our sailing gear is too long for those. Nothing to do with the size of the aircraft.
Regarding airlines. Don't fly Jetstar with boards. As a general rule they only take gear up to 190cm in length because that's the size of luggage containers. On some routes they can take longer boards but that's more an exception than the norm and aircraft type can change last minute. As others have said Qantas or Virgin is the best way to travel domestically if you have boards.
Do remember that there is a weight limit as well. Assume if it's over 23kgs you could run into problems. At best they'll charge you extra at worst they'll make you re-pack. 32kg per bag is the hard upper limit regardless.
Not sure if the 1.90 for Jetstar is correct? I flew back from Launceston to Brisbane a couple of years back with a board around 2.25 in a board bag. Just had a look online and they are still saying 2.30.
From memory cost me around $60 extra, nearly $100 less than the best quote on freight at the time. Only spent another 10 minutes extra each end and saved 2 trips to freight depots. Also, no damage to board at all.
There was something about not taking Windsurfing gear on line, but I think that was because of the length of masts.
Make sure you add it before you get to the airport. Less hassle and I think it was cheaper if you do it in advance.
