What year is my RRD FSW board, serial RDFW904060078, 90 liters, blue, single PB fin box?
Does anyone know how these are coded?
Have you got a picture?
If it s blue, it's probably pre 2017, when the Razzle Dazzle look took over for two years. There is an archive on the RRD website, where you can look up older models. It's not fully comprehensive though, in some years some models are missing. By their reckoning, we're now in Y26, so your board would probably be Y21 or older.
Usually Cobra built boards go along the lines of
Brand code/model/volume/year made/month made/4 digit serial number
So for yoursRDFW904060078
Brand RD
Model FW
Volume 90
Year made 2004 (2014 boards have 14, they didnt think ahead on that part)
Month June
Serial 78 - 78th board made
The serial numbers are not consistent across brands, or even within a brand.
More recently they have started putting the model year at the start, as you can have a version originally released in 2014 but built in 2016 if they haven't changed the board. Or the add the version number of the board, eg IV (for version 4 in roman numerals)
After the model there might be something to identify the construction. eg My Exocet S carbon construction has SCAR after the year it was originally released - EX14SCAR14120025
Old fart, bad memory....didn't care then.
I have the original FSW L, yellow and reddish stripes, circa 2003, maybe '04. Lotsa nose kick.
By around '06, they went solid pastel colors. White bottoms.
I love this board. Newer models are slower, later to plane, point worse, carve less well, have fatter tail rails, shorter, some V, even heavier. Yechh! That upcurved nose has a benefit in waves, getting out through the break and surviving late top turns. I don't have a problem breaking noses with my boom and mast like some other folks. Maybe, they let go of the boom or are shorter. It is easier to tack in light wind, is smooth at very high speed. And it was free! All that money wasted on boards. The Starboard 2013 model FSW 94 liter is also good, cost $400 used. The Stbd 2018 94 liter is slow and sluggish and not particularly maneuverable, cost $1,500, what a waste.
Seems a bit like running shoes. Two steps forward, one to three steps back.
That serial is not like normal Cobra ones, its not a 2004. the early ones were just S, M, L so would not have 90L written on it.
I'm calling more like 2008. Pics?

It looks a similar format serial number to this. Exocet Cross 90l (200)4 November 0048th made.

^^^^ Yessss
But by his desc its not a 2004. They were the swirly coloured ones Lee describes, and I'm pretty sure volume not written (S,M &L)
I think.....
Can't you search online and find an old brochure.
equipment.robertoriccidesigns.com/windsurf-board-collection/
Scroll down and look it up in the bottom left corner!
It goes back to 2011.
That blue board is older than 2011, I think.
Mark prolly hit it the closest, as I recall those boards around '10, and they were a few years old.
I think my red and yellow swirl L is around 2003-4.
