Tested a 40cm Vector Volt G10 against a 40cm Vector Volt carbon.
After numerous long 2-3km reaches, exchanging fins and boards over with friend the G10 was far superior in every department bar none.
Was especially faster and more controllable in the 20 knot plus gusts.
Board trim was so much easier than the carbon version which i feel is far too narrow in the chord.Which is likely the reason the carbon version is not so good upwind. And also prone to spinouts in the gusts.
Should add the G10 40cm was cut down at the tip from a 44cm volt.
Hi petermac33!
I have few of the volts G10 and i love these fins can't go wrong with them in any conditions and there is no spin out at all.
Good Sailing,
Dani.
Hi Peter
Great to hear about the testing. Any feedback is always good.
The Vector Volt G10 40cm (cut down version) is indeed a very good fin! and I use this one myself most of the time in my medium board.
For the G10 fins in the sizes over 40cm+ in the Volt model, I did a experiment some time ago to cut the tip by 4cm, and the improvement was pretty good,,
Jeff (Vector fins designer) is currently adjusting and fine tuning his design from 40-48cm in the G10 Volt, to be the cut down versions.
To compare against the 40 Volt Carbon, is a OK test, but a little unfair as the Volt G10 40cm is still delivering the power closer to a 44cm. So I can understand your statement.
I tested 40, 42 and 44 Carbon Volt vs the G10 40cm, and 42 and 44 Volt Carbon is much closer in comparison.
You can use a slightly bigger Volt Carbon as they have unreal control. It is a more steady locked in ride and specially in more rough condition.
