Spring is here, Summer is around the corner and it's time to chuck out the OLD sunscreens, YES the OLD sunscreen that's probably been sitting in your car all of 08/09 summer and '09 winter too!
I am guilty of this 
leaving sunscreen in my car, cooking, while i'm out windsurfing.
Once sunscreen heats up above the recommended storage temperature, it is USELESS.
Sitting in the sun a car's interior can easily reach +50?C, effectively cooking your sunscreen.

Recommendations: put the sunscreen in an esky/cooler bag with an icebrick or ice.
And tell your mates to chuck out their old sunscreen too!

I absolutely second your statememnts, Sunscreen doesnt last very long when I am around, but I chucked out a fulltube of Banana Boat a few weeks ago, had been in the car all winter.
And remember - different sunscreens suit different skin types. What sticks to my face may not to another. I searched long and hard over a long time to find a sunscreen that suits my skin type (Banana Boat Black Tube).
I am trialling Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock (With HelioPlex) on the advice of my dermatologist (I now have one since having a bit cut from my lip last year). In the US it is marketed as SPF85+, but for legal reasons as SPF30+ here. Early indications are very good - so I may now have a better option then the Banana Boat. Still not convinvced on its water resistance yet.

Another thing to watch out is where you splash around these modern sunscreens with Titanium Dioxide particles in the nano-sized range. The industry I work in has observed that when particles get that small, they can really mess with paint systems, causing massively accelerated fading and discolouration. These issues didn't exist prior to TIO2 Nanoparticles. Suggest you close all your car doors etc before you cover your hands with sunscreen, lest you end up with a permanently discouloured handprint in your bootlid or similar.
