Hi there

Anyone used a 2013 blacktip and Severne S1 or blade able to give me any feedback in terms of how they compare in their performance, handling, construction, durability etc?

cheers!

In its overall performance characteristics the Simmer Blacktip is comparable to the Severne S1 rather than the Blade. It is compact in out outline (shorter luff) with a relatively flatter profile (than the Blade and Icon) and has 4 battens. This gives the sail a lighter, softer, more neutral feel for side shore, new school waveshredding , rather than the more locked in, full on power of the Blade or Icon.

Construction wise the S1 is built down to a minimum weight for maximum performance using high tech material. The Blacktip is more solid and one would expect slightly more durability for this reason (debatable point).

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

The issue is, i sail on a beach break with light winds so can often take a few on the head...esp getting out. Ive ripped the clew off my 2011 5.9 icon, and on Saturday i ripped the bottom panel on my 5.3! So although i want a nice light feeling and good DTL, i also need it to handle my dodgy teachnique and getting flattened! Think that means blade!
