German Surf Magazine is the most widely read and regarded windsurf mag in the world. Their tests literally make or break a brand and model's success throughout the season -throughout the world's largest volume market - Europe.
Severne Sails (Aussie designed by the team right here in Perth - thank you very much!!) recently topped all the Freeride tests (NCX, Element, Glide) - which were objective enough to even put an overall SCORE next to the tests (its a german thing) - With Severne's smashing it across the board!! (actually in some models it was quite close amongst the top few models but Severne's results show the consistent talent and progressive vision Mr Severne and the aussie design loft have)
Here is a quick summary from severne marketing HQ below:
German SURF (Nov ’07) has published an extensive freeride sail test. We are exited to find out that the results are beyond expectations. These are the categories that were tested: 3 cams (Glide 7.5), 2 cams (Element 7.5) and no cam sails (NCX 7.0).
Summary:
SEVERNE NCX 7.0
Nine no cam freeride sails between 6.8 and 7.3 were tested against each other. Together with one other sail (Point 7), the NCX was the only one to receive top scores for planing ability. It also received highest scores in all the other characteristics, ahead of its competitors NP and North.
SEVERNE ELEMENT 7.5
Out of 5 leading 2-cam sails tested, the Element took the lead ahead of NP’s V6 and Gaastra’s Swift. The Element’s planing abilities (compared to NP) and controllability in high winds (compared to Gaastra) gave it an overall advantage.
SEVERNE GLIDE 7.5
The 3 cams Glide sail was tested against North’s Prisma and Sailloft Hamburg’s Traction and received highest scores in early planing and planing ability. The only disadvantage is it’s controllability in higher winds, a problem that can be easily solved by re-trimming. Overall thumbs up for “best handling and performance”.
