Hello, looking at getting a large sail for my fsw 100. Thinking 6.5 max. Been looking at the gator, can anyone give me any feedback on handling etc
I want to use the sail for bump and jump, im what they could call heavy handed so x ply is a big plus for me, been trying NP, Naish but after reading some reviews i wouldnt mind finding out about Serverne, especially the Gator or blade.
I had the 6.5 Gator, and a 5.5, and two smaller blades.
For myself the 6.5 was bit too big for bump and jump, as I am 72kg but I found it very stable and user friendly the power comes on and off smoothly. My blades were just a stable and have a similar locked in feel, but sharper in power delivery. I doubt I would have liked the blade in that size, as 6.5 is a flat water blaster for me, but I liked its on/off nature in the smaller sizes, it being a wave sail after all..
Certainly was happy with the quality, so I bought S-1s to replace these.
Hope that helps
Just to add a little to the discussion
I have a 2010 S1 6.3 - great sail smooth power fast - fits on a 430 skinny and have sailed it on my 99 single thruster and it works OK - usually keep it for the skate 112.
Took it out in some head hi cross off waves (they say they arent designed for wave sailing in the 5.9 and 6.3) and after a couple of snottings I ended up with only half the third batten left in the sleeve. Luckily I have a spare batten from the Severne crew when I snapped the same battens in my S2 a couple of years ago (posted over for free - good follow up service from Jesper at the loft)
The blades and Gators might be a better choice if your going to be hard on the sails.
Windforce Perth appear to have a 2011 6.5 Gator if you can be bothered shipping to the opposite corner of OZ!
(I'm in WA and I purchased a used KA 6.6 Koyote from a buyer in QLD as I couldn't find a s/hand one anywhere else).
