Thumbs Up

The design philosophy at Severne has paid dividends big time this year. The world's fastest growing sail brand got there with consistent review comments like the ones i have collected and posted below:

S1- The Lightest , most hi tech wave sail on the planet!

The S1 is an extremely light and maneuverable sail

a pleasure to use for maneuver-oriented sailing. In overpowered conditions the sail remains stable

a top performer in sideshore conditions

This Severne sail collects the highest marks. As the lightest sail of the group, with best on-off effect, lightest maneuver handling and best level of control. It advanced as one of the test riders favourites

a very new mixture of power and control with a very light feel

when riding down the waves, the S-1 feels like one size smaller. You feel more connected, more like surfi ng without a sail. For good and very good wave sailors who prefer a somewhat softer profile, the S-1 is most likely to top their wish list

On the water, this Severne is light (the lightest sail on test and by far) and powerful, but at the same it can dissappear in the surf. It is outstanding by its efficiency and comfort on a 4m mast

+Very comfortable and very light in the hands
*Light weight and maneuverable, the S-1 is superb for wave riding and lighter sailors

S1 –5.9 – Wave freestyle cross over

On Water:
Amongst test riders, the subjective result are (especially in Freestyle) is rarely so definite. Severne’s S-1 is fun for everyone; from lightweights to heavier riders with styles ranging from new school to classic oriented, dynamic or more playful. No doubt, it’s the perfect free-style sail!

Summary:
The S-1- designed as a wave sail and newly introduced as a freestyle sail in 5.9 and 6.3, lands it’s first coup right from the start. A freestyle sail, par excellence. Flat, light, dynamic, controllable, expensive. The e4 material however is not only expensive but also durable.

SURF Advice: Absolutely recommendable, even in waves

Blade –the Legendary Pre Shape Wave sail

The Blade was one of the test team's favourite sails in this size last season, providing an impressive amount of manageable power, combined with a level of stability that a nearby detonated bomb would find hard to disturb

It proves to be very reactive and direct, with a good punch for such a small sail. None the less, you feel at one with the sail and the comfort in the gusts is excellent. The manoeuverability is immaculate, smooth and neutral

the Blade has a stunning bottom end, capable of un-sticking the most stubborn hull. The centre of effort is incredibly low and forward in the draft, transferring every bit of power directly to the board, leaving the sail to feel perfectly balanced in the hands.

beautifully balanced and the drive is locked at the front of the sail. The sail is great for riding, offering drive into the bottom turn and is light and effortless to reposition

On the water the Blade gave an awesome performance level that found favour amongst all who sailed it, even those that tended to shy away from sail's with pre-shape

A pre-shape sail that for its style is hard to fault

Super stable and balanced, the Blade has a staggering natural range, its centre of power locked low down in the draft, never getting backhanded

Verdict: The Blade is a sensationally stable sail, providing constant balanced power over a massive wind range. Ideal for decisive riding styles, it can be used to great effect in any sea state, with the straight-line comfort to match its superb wave riding capabilities.

For: Powerful yet light handling sail performing for a wide range of riders.

Verdict: The Blade is a really sharp manoeuvre orientated sail, with stability and power

S2 –freestlye/ freemove/ wave All rounder 5.8 ,6.4

The S2 has been a delight to use over the years and the 2007 model is no exception being a FANTASTIC performing sail that was liked by all who used it.

Light and compact in the hands it has a surprising amount of bottom end power. It physically accelerates in the hands when hit by a gust, remaining impressively stable and balanced. The speed off the wind was EXCEPTIONAL , the sail's balance and composure encouraging the rider to really put the hammer down. Is is a very well engineered and attractive looking sail whose performance undoubtedly made it one of the test teams favourites.

Light Handling , fast , efficient and impressive wind range. The S2 is a STUNNING ALL ROUND CONTENDER and comes very highly recommended by us for high wind blasting through to bump and jump sailing in coastal conditions.

NCX – No cam Freeride

The NCX is Seveme's no-cam freeride sail that has deservedly received high praise in the past, combining the range of a high performance no-cam freeride with the handling of a freemove sail

once up to speed, it has few rivals. The 6.5 is the most stable sail tested, showing no fear of gusts. It keeps accelerating with more wind while remaining locked in and balanced at all times.

the NCX is beautifully positive and precise, efficiently reacting to changes in wind strength as it accelerates in gusts and carries its speed effortlessly through lulls. Feeling compact and smaller than its quoted area, the NCX is a joy to use in harsh sea states, absorbing the impact of chop and being supremely comfortable for long periods of use.

Its impressive speed and excellent handling makes the NCX incredibly versatile in the gybe, happy either powering-in and driving hard, or cruising through the turn and releasing the power early.

The true beauty of the NCX remains in its handling, feeling super light and much smaller than its quoted area in the hands. This is undoubtedly in part due to the inset clew eyelet, but for a 7.5m it feels incredibly responsive, even throw about!

The Severne NCX enthuses with an unbelievable lightness; it’s hardly possible to sail with less strength on a 7.0 sail. The light weight animates to a few quick pumps, but actually there is no need to rush, the first light gust will get it planing anyways. The feeling of the first tuck on the boom is unforgettable. The feather light profile conveys a feeling of setting free additional energy without any physical effort

Summary:
A sail that appears extremely light, with stable and neutral handling characteristics
Surf Advice: A very successful freeride all-round sail that is also very suitable for light riders

Verdict
The NCX has matured into a high-performance freeride contender whilst retaining the magical handling characteristics of its predecessor. Best partnered with efficient boards, its speed is a match for any here.

Overdrive –3 cam race winner!

The Overdrive is a sail with a lot of speed potential. In combination with a high performance slalom board it could win slalom races. The Overdrive is a real plug and play machine. Every sailor will get used to this speed monster easily. The sail planes up pretty quick and feels relaxed. This fun machine is compact and has an extreme light feeling. In wind gusts the Overdrive quickly accelerates to the next gear, and its top end speed feels unrestricted.

In gibes the sail stays perfectly in control and invites you to go full speed into the next corner.

The Overdrive is suited for windsurfers who like optimal performance and like to go fast without too much energy.

Built quality :

The Overdrive - we are convinced; this sail is well built and has cambers which rotate very well. Easy to rig without too much stress.

Plus Points :

Easy Handling

Top end speed

Control

Element –Twin cam Freeride
On Water:
The Severne sail shines out as the lightest sail in the group. Especially in light and medium winds the sail is in its element

Top end stability, beautiful light crisp balanced handling.

Summary:
Remarkable light powers sail for everybody, regardless of their weight. Its riding qualities are absolutely recommendable
