On the back of the test winning severne S1 test comes this - another coup for Aussie designed Severne sails!
These sails feature concepts never before seen in a wavesail such as rider geomentry relevant design, an Aramid torsion frame (basically a kevlar perimeter shield tp protect the sail from impact and stretching through the luff load area) and revolutionary E3 sail material - the most advanced (and expensive) laminate currently available to windsurf sail designers.
here are some excerpts from the test:
On Water:
Amongst test riders, the subjective result are (especially in Freestyle) is rarely so definite. Severne’s S-1 is fun for everyone; from lightweights to heavier riders with styles ranging from new school to classic oriented, dynamic or more playful. No doubt, it’s the perfect free-style sail! The sail feels light and soft without loosing its lively feel. The flat profile stays neutral; it virtually floats during maneuvers whether powered up or with the power off. Thanks to the excellent “off”, even difficult moves in gusty conditions have a high rate of success. With the shortest boom Speedloops or Duck Jibes become so easy. The rotation is as smooth as it can be. Classic moves around the mast are just as easy. In little wind a little twitch on the boom is enough to fill the sail with power for response. The sail feels like a feather in lower winds which together with the great planing potential leads to a lot of “foolish” ideas. In high winds, the S-1 keeps you in excellent control and doesn’t loose any of its agility.
Summary:
The S-1- designed as a wave sail and newly introduced as a freestyle sail in 5.9 and 6.3, lands it’s first coup right from the start. A freestyle sail, par excellence. Flat, light, dynamic, controllable, expensive. The e4 material however is not only expensive but also durable.
SURF Advice: Absolutely recommendable, even in waves
