Thumbs Up

Just a quick review of the Redline 400 Wave. This is the 400 cm 100% carbon mast Severne recommends for it's S1 and Blade sails.

The mast is probably one of the lightest on the market at 1.45 kgs. It comes in a mast bag which is also super light keeping the overall weight (bag + mast) at 2 kgs. Finish is smooth and makes rigging very easy. My only gripe would be that when you connect the bottom and top piece it constantly slides apart by about 1 cm. Since I always apply some electrical tape this isn't really an issue. My guess is the top piece is so well sealed that an air cushion builds up when you insert the bottom part.

II have tried it on a few sails: S1 5.6, Blade 5.5 and NP Combat HD 5.3.

It's a perfect fit for the S1 even for a heavier rider. On the 5.5 Blade I feel the mast is too soft. Perhaps if you are in the 70 to 80 kg weight range it will work better. I am guessing the recommended 430 would feel very different.

As expected the mast has the wrong bend curve in order to work on the NP sail. It can be done but you won't get he best performance out of the sail.

I can't make any comments in regards to durability as I simply haven't used this mast long enough or had any major wipe outs in big surf.

If you get an S1 5.6 do yourself a favour and get one of these mast with it. It's pricey but the low weight and performance you get out of it make it worth while.
