For the past few years I have been struggling to find a decent seat harness that can be used in waves.
I can't use a waist harness due to injuries and after the Covid diet and little exercise I have had to buy a bigger size.
I used to use a Prolimit Kite seat and then bought another two pro Limit harness's both of which didn't feel right. Don't get me wrong they are well made but just lacking a few features.
Anyway I saw a Severne harness second hand for sale in my size and bought it. Think the guy had used it once.
I tried to read as much information about it but the Severne website didn't really show much and neither did any review that I could find.
Firstly it has a few more important features that some other harness's don't have. Its sold as a higher hook harness which for waves is good for control and quicker unhooking. It is higher by around 2 inches than my previous harness's.
Its got quite a high back too and you can feel this extra support when sheeted in and a gust highs, the harness disperses the load a lot better than others I have used.
The power belt too has velcro all the way across and two other side belts that give extra support once tightened, a really nice feature.
The finishing details are good and the leg straps are comfy due to neoprene covered leg straps which a lot of harness's don't do.
Theres two little adjustable side straps too that I left loose then adjusted on the beach once hooked in, I don't think they made much difference to the feel of it so I left them loose.
The hook is nice too, its short and has the perfect angle to unhook easily and hook in smoothly, the quick release works well but I have never had trouble with the Prolimit ones in the past. The side straps webbing is a little stiff and can be hard to adjust but softened up once wet.
Overall the support when sailing in a straight line was great, quite a solid feel but not over solid and stiff.
For me the only down side was that as its a moulded harness and the moulding is quite low before the cloth section on the bum and that meant it wasn't as free between the legs as others whilst walking etc but once on the board I really didn't notice it.
I really wasn't sure about the rolled top edge and thought it would dig into your waist of feel uncomfortable but it didn't and I didn't notice any difference in this feature to any other harness.
Not sure of the retail price as I can't find one in any shop online.
Overall a great product, well engineered, comfy and would suit someone both wavesailing and racing that wants a good seat harness.

Just to let you know that theres one of these harness's for sale on Market place, the owner is based near to Seal Rocks. $90.
If you are after a really good Harness for both waves / Racing with a higher hook then this would be a good deal they retail at around $320 it would suit 34" to 36" waist.
I found them to be very stiff.
The hook was slightly higher than most seat harness's which was great for control but not as flexible as the CMR.
