If you want to take your sailing to the next level, check out a Riders Custom (formerly Bluejuice Customs). I have ridden two Riders twinnies: a 74L and 92L and they are The Biz!
Rider5' been making twinnies for 10 years - longer than most board companies - so he's had time to get them really dialled. 7 years ago, when "new gen" "stubbies" began to flood the market, Rider5 realised that they needed the fin closer to the rail to prevent the wide tails from sliding out when bottom turning. So he built a stubby twin. The board worked amazingly but the world wasn't ready for another new concept (they still weren't completely convinced about stubbies). Besides, Scotty, Jason, Kauli etc were all riding singles, right?
So while his customers demanded single fin boards, Rider5 continued to make twinnies for himself and experimented with different shapes, fins etc. In 2008 Riders Custom twinnies stand out from the crowd. His boards carry more speed through the bottom turns and are way way snappier off the top. They plane super early, power upwind, cover a massive wind range and they're strong. It's like they're on drugs.
The latest production twins I have tested are good but not mind blowing. Riders Customs are exciting, dynamic and encourage the sailor to go big.
When I hand over my hard-earned I want that something extra. I want a board that makes me a better sailor - something that makes me push my limits and extend my boundaries. This is the beauty of the custom board. It can be made to suit your ability, size and style.
I'll continue to try as many boards as I can get my hands on over the next few months but I haven't found anything that makes me smile as much as a Riders Custom.
