ok - not me giving a review but asking for one please?!
Nuevo's are not imported into UK so I cant test or see them
So can someone describe how they compare to the Fanatic or Starboard Quad size for size?
They sound like theyd be perfect for float n ride in decent waves?
Any good for crappy waves and onshore as well or only really work for peeling cross off?
And sizing.. at 88kg, the 101 or 110 ?
id love to test out a starboard quad, vs kode vs nuevo in the kinda 60cm width models...but it just aint possible!
So be great if someone could feedback!
Northy
Hey northy1,
Cant rave enough about the SB NUEVO & QUADS.
I have a Nuevo 101 and Quad 87 and sail SE Queensland area
which is mainly 10-15kts float and ride conditions but does have its days.
Found the Nuevo 101 very versatile and user friendly from day 1 nothing nasty to get use to,
think it excels over most boards in cross to cross on, and is great in cross off as well.
On the wave it has plenty of drive & speed in the bottom turn but loose off the top turn,
with plenty of volume up front so you can jam it late under the lip and get away with it.
It handles a big sail well, I mainly run a 6.2 blade with it which work great together and is good down
to around 5.3 range.
The Quad works well in cross on but really comes into its own in cross off down the line conditions,
the speed of the turn on the wave and how vertical you can drive it up the wave face is amazing,
I don't get to ride this board enough due to the conditions we get but love it when conditions are firing.
I'm around 82kg so as a light to moderate wind wave board the Nuevo 101ltr perfect for me.
there is a 110ltr in the range and a 120lt due 2015
Go the NUEVO works in any conditions.
Some pics of my 101 in a mix of conditions
Hi Shane, have you had an opportunity to ride the SB 100 quad and/ or Fanatic 101 quad. If so, how do they compare? I imagine the quads are more controllable at the top end and possibly better upwind but the Nuevo is looser and may be quicker to plane. I'm after a floaty board but one with a bit of range.
I weigh the same as you. Could I get away with a 5.0 on a Nuevo? I see you are selling yours - is it still in one piece after those massive off the lips?!
What are you replacing the Nuevo with?
Thanks a lot Shane!
SB quads are in UK but NO ONE has the Nuevo's so its a bit of a punt to buy one totally blind
I have seen a 100 quad avail so might check that out - as opposed to the Nuevo 110 that i kinda had my heart on!
Hi Gonebush, yes have ridden both Starboard 100 quad 2014 & Fanatic 101 quad(was 2011 or 12 model) and in these sizes both felt bigger & slower to plane
compared to Nuevo 101 in the light stuff which hides its size/volume well.
If you swap the fins around large in front side small at back the quads work well helps them plane earlier and work in cross on.
All are very loose and great to ride, the Nuevo has more drive on the wave which helps generate & maintain speed in its turns
and everything to me feels in the right positions volume, mast track, foot straps, fins
just jump on and ride no adjustment required.
Still love the SB quads when its firing the 87 one awesome ride.
The 101 has a big usable wind range have used it done to a 4.7 so 5.0 would be fine,
and yes its still in one piece not a dings or creases just a bit of paint wear its a full carbon model light but tough as.
Selling my current 2014 nuevo101, replacing with 2015 Nuevo and Black box 107 for next summer.
Hey northy1 if you can get hold of a Nuevo 110 you want be disappointed for the conditions you described,
or demo a black box 107 super fun in average conditions having a ball on mine in some pretty light mushy stuff.
Hi Northy,
I'm on a 74L and 84L Nude Chopper which the Nuevos are based on and if they are anything to go by you won't be disappointed with a Nuevo. I initially tried the 100L Nuevo which felt a bit big for me at 70kg but was surprised at how well it turned. Got a great deal on a pair of used Nude Choppers which is why I didn't go with Nuevos but they share the same DNA.
Having sailed the '14 Kode Wave and Quad in 82L I find the Choppers sits nicely between the two. A bit less lively/edgy than the Kode Wave and not as planted as the Quad, they love to fly down the line and rail to rail compared to the Quad which likes tight turns and to sit more in the pocket. Also sailed the Black Box last summer which was great in cross on/on shore mush but the Nuevo was just as fun with the bonus of working well in cross/cross off as well.
Had a ball on my 74L Chopper with a 3.6 S1 this morning in 35 knots on the bay this morning, amazingly versatile board. I am a relative light weight at 70kg but from all accounts even the big Nuevos turn really well.
Nuevo gets my vote.
Thanks for the reply Shane.
Just curious: why the need for the Blackbox if the Nuevo is good in onshore mush? Does the Nuevo 101 feel smaller than its quoted volume and necessitate an even lighter wind board for somebody who is ~82kg? Are you getting another 101 or stepping up to 110L?
Cheers
Thanks Shane!
the only Nuevo in UK is the 2013 93 version...any experience with this? i think it would be a little on the small size for my largest board (88kg) Alternatively - wonder how silly ($) it would be to courier a 110 over from somewhere?!
Hey northy1
ive got the 110 nuevo wood and it's a banger board. If you have another board for high wind then I recommend going the 110. It is amazing how well it turns. It's so slashy and you can whip it back under you Really easy. at your weight you could sail it in 8 knots cross off so you would be out in nothing. I'm surprised how long I stay on the 110 before changing down.
On the wave these boards are so amazing. Thou off the wave they don't plane well and tend to not point well. Now there not crap but they just won't be like the quad. which will get going early and point great. Due to the size of the 110 they have made them with more wave rocker so the turn which is great. Just don't expect to plane up as fast as guys on similar faster boards.
I highly recomend getting one and you may be able to get one sent over from another country, shouldn't cost much more then $150. I can sell you mine if the rumors are true and there's a 120 Coming out. Because I'll wanna change out and get a bigger one then.
cheers

My local spots to wave sail tend to be 2ft gutless cross to cross on beach breaks the Nuevo does a great job,
but find black box 107 even better in that mush, its only 7'2" long but wide and supper stable & heaps of float.
Have played around with fin setups and it now feels closer to shot board surfing than anything else, love it.
Can use it from when only windSUP can get out to around 15kts than its Nuevo time.
I'm getting a 92 Nuevo for next season, was 86+kgs fat bastard when I first got the 101 a year ago,
working on being back under 80kg by the time the new models are out.
Relapse & wintortree totally agree, and any minor top end speed issue it makes up big time on the wave!
Thanks for the reply Shane.

I'm rapidly going in the other direction towards fat bastard (85/86 kg at the moment according to this weeks weigh in).
I'm a novice wavesailor though I spent a bit of time blatting around in the waves on a FSW last summer and surf a lot too year round. I'm on Sydney's Northern Beaches so summer sailing sounds similar to QLD with small waves with patchy seabreezes <15 knots. It sounds like a floaty quad is going to be a better option for me than the Nuevo given that they're quicker to plane, point higher and possibly have a better top end wind range.
The second hand options (sub $2k) available to me are Fanatic 101, Starboard 100, JP Twinser Quad 99 (or Nuevos 101 and 110). Apparently the JP Twinser has a flatter rocker than some of the other quads so planes up faster (though no option to put the big fins to the front)?
It sounds like most guys have light wind boards that are typically +15L on rider weight so hopefully I am on the right track. I'll still have old 92L and 80L single fins for the windy days too.
Thanks for the reply Shane.

If you wanna do anything else but wavesail on the Nuevo. Your going to be disapponted with is performance of the bigger boards. There is just to much rocker. But if you want to just wave ride on it you will be so stoked. (They are really comfortable on the plane just won't plane early.)
They don't get over powered that easy. I've had my 110 out in 30 knots with a small sail and just been fine.
I guess you have to know what you want out of the board. I had the 104 goya quad and it did everything from wave riding to FW blasting really well. Only changed due to the Nuevo being better on the wave and a little more volume.
+1 for the Goya quad, its what I would be on if it wasn't for the Nuevo. I tried the 84L Goya Quad its a really versatile board, super grippy in the turns, planes nice and early and doesn't bog down in the lulls but for my style of sailing the Nuevo has the edge.
Thanks Wintortree. I do want a wave board and I'm happy to sacrifice speed and planing because I've still got the FSW for bump and jump.
I've read good things about the Goya 104 but unfortunately there's not one for sale second hand at present. I probably need to stop being such a pussy and part with my cash!
anyone know of a 110 nuevo going for sale...carbon?
I may have a wood for sale soon

Here is a little on the 120
The NuEvos are twin fin boards. The NuEvo 120 has an extra trailer fin to match larger sail sizes
Im keen to see if they plane up a little sooner with the trailer fin. can't wait to get on one
