Bought a 7m and 7.8m only used the 7m. The 7 calls up for an x6 460 mast but i'm using an x3 for now until i find a good 2nd hand x6.(still seems to work ok )
any way the luff is 462 it says on the sail base = 2132 cm I don't understand this measurement. i'm using zero extension and should i be using 2cm. The neil pryde web site and rigging instructions seem very vague /basic. it says downhaul until
between 2nd and 3rd batterns leech goes loose 1/2 to 3/4 across.
I have been told these sails require more downhaul than usual, so do i down haul until goes loose between 3rd and 4th battern.
Also outhaul at neutral pos the sail rubs on the boom wearing a hole in the material on the battern/monofilm. So in lighter winds do i still need to outhaul more to stop this.
Other than that i am very happy with the speed and light feeling of these sails.
I,ve noticed with the boom cut out that the sail has got longer rather than the boom shorter. They could take 20cm sq off the end and make the sail a foot shorter and easier to store/transport/roll up or does that long bit at the end do something special. Any help on rigging these would be appreciated
Thanks
Dale
your 2134 is actually 2cm with a 460 mast and 32cm with a 430 mast.
if you dont use the extra 2cm you will not be able to make the sail rotate properly and it will power from far too high up, pulling you over the front in every gust.
I rig mine till its almost loose to the boom. run the recommended settings with a NP mast and NP extension and the bottom of the pulleys on the sail should be about 1cm off the np extension moulded or cast piece. Block to block if powered and fully lit.
I use the smaller size mast on my MKIII's. Works for my 71kg frame.
Make sure you have a wide style boom. Place stickers or sail tape on the sail to avoid rubbing through. In reality this is a fact of life with every brands race sails.
The boom cut out works just be very careful in storage and transport. The concept works and there is plenty of propaganda on the websites of all the diff brands sites.
Agree with all comments above, would also add that the MIII needs some positive outhaul as a minimum to engage the compact clew and produce the right foil. Crank on tack strap for stability and power. If the sails are new, take 4 to 5 sessions at least to downhaul fully. Expect the X3 to be slightly stiffer than X6, with a larger diameter, dont crank on any batten tension until you get X6. Even then wait until 10-12 uses, then use minimal adjustments.
Happy sailing, best sails ever!
Thanks guys i'll have a few more sessions and try a few changes.the boom setting for the 7.0m is 202cm
What sort of wind ranges do you use the 7.0m and 7.8m.s
I might look at buying a 6.2 for next season to replace my 5.8 Koncept and possible with the wind ranges stated on the web site i may not need my 5.0m
Koncept also.
